    30 Prayers for Hospice Patient with Scriptures to Back

    Facing a terminal illness brings challenges, both physically and spiritually. For those in hospice care, prayer can be a powerful source of comfort, strength, and peace.

    Supporting a loved one during their hospice journey can be a profoundly emotional experience, filled with moments of both struggle and solace.

    These prayers aim to bring comfort, peace, and spiritual strength to patients and their families, providing a source of unwavering faith and hope in the face of life’s most challenging moments.

    These prayers address various needs, from managing pain and fear to finding hope and acceptance and aim to uplift both the patient and their loved ones as they navigate this final chapter of life.

    30 Prayers for Hospice Patient

    1. Matthew 11:28

    “Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.”

    Dear Heavenly Father, we come to You with hearts heavy with the burdens of this life. We ask that You grant Your beloved child in hospice the peace and rest only You can provide.

    May Your comforting presence surround them, and may they feel Your gentle embrace through every moment of their journey. May their spirit find solace in Your unwavering love and grace.

    Lord, we ask that You give strength to their loved ones and caregivers. May they find comfort in Your promises and encouragement through Your Word.

    Provide them with patience and endurance as they support their dear one, and let their hearts be filled with hope and trust in Your divine plan.

    2. Psalm 23:4

    “Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.”

    Heavenly Father, we thank You for being our constant companion in times of fear and uncertainty. As our loved one walks through this valley, we ask that You remove all fear from their heart.

    May they feel Your comforting presence and know that You are with them every step of the way.

    3. Isaiah 40:31

    “But they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint.”

    Gracious God, we pray for the renewal of strength for our loved one in hospice. As they wait upon You, may they experience a supernatural infusion of Your power and grace.

    Lift their spirits high like the wings of an eagle and grant them the courage to face each day with hope and trust in Your promises.

    Lord, we ask that You sustain them through their physical and emotional trials. May they find rest in Your loving arms and receive the strength to overcome every challenge.

    4. Philippians 4:6-7

    “Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”

    Loving Father, we lift up our prayers and supplications to You on behalf of our dear one in hospice. We ask that You take away all anxiety and replace it with Your peace that surpasses all understanding.

    5. 2 Corinthians 1:3-4

    “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our affliction, so that we may be able to comfort those who are in any affliction, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God.”

    Merciful God, we thank You for being the source of all comfort and mercy. We pray that You shower Your abundant comfort upon our loved one in hospice.

    May they feel Your tender love and compassion in every moment of their affliction, knowing that You are always by their side.

    Empower them to be a source of comfort to others, even in their own suffering. May their experience of Your love and mercy inspire and encourage those around them.

    6. John 14:27

    “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid.”

    Lord Jesus, we thank You for the gift of Your peace. We pray that Your peace, which surpasses all worldly understanding, would fill the heart of our loved one in hospice.

    May their troubled heart find rest in Your calming presence and be free from fear.

    Help them to trust in Your promises and to know that You are always with them. Grant them the assurance that Your peace is eternal and unshakable, and let them feel the warmth of Your love surrounding them every day.

    7. Romans 8:38-39

    “For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

    Heavenly Father, we thank You for the unbreakable bond of Your love. We pray that our loved one in hospice would be fully aware of the depth and breadth of Your love for them.

    May they find comfort in the assurance that nothing in this world or beyond can separate them from Your love in Christ Jesus.

    8. James 5:15

    “And the prayer of faith will save the one who is sick, and the Lord will raise him up. And if he has committed sins, he will be forgiven.”

    Heavenly Father, we thank You for Your promise to be with us and to strengthen us. We pray that our loved one in hospice would feel Your presence and be uplifted by Your righteous right hand.

    12. Psalm 46:10

    “Be still, and know that I am God. I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth!”

    “He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will abide in the shadow of the Almighty. I will say to the Lord, ‘My refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.’”

    Heavenly Father, we pray that our loved one in hospice would find refuge and safety in Your presence. May they dwell in the shelter of the Most High and abide in the shadow of the Almighty.

    15. Jeremiah 29:11

    “For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.”

    We pray that they would find comfort in knowing that You have a purpose and plan for their life. May their heart be filled with hope and trust in Your divine will.

    Gracious God, we thank You for the faith and perseverance of our loved one in hospice. We pray that they would find comfort in knowing that they have fought the good fight and finished the race.

    Lord, we ask that You strengthen their faith and help them to hold fast to Your promises. Let them find peace in the assurance that You are the righteous judge and that their reward is secure in You.

    19. Psalm 121:1-2

    “I lift up my eyes to the hills. From where does my help come? My help comes from the Lord, who made heaven and earth.”

    Heavenly Father, we pray that our loved one in hospice would lift their eyes to You for help and strength.

    Loving Father, we look forward to the day when our loved one in hospice will see Your face and experience the fullness of Your glory. We pray that they would find hope and joy in the promise of eternal life with You.

    Lord, we ask that You grant them the assurance of Your love and the peace that comes from knowing they will reign with You forever. Let their spirit be lifted by the knowledge that Your light will shine upon them for all eternity.

    21. Deuteronomy 31:6

    “Be strong and courageous. Do not fear or be in dread of them, for it is the Lord your God who goes with you. He will not leave you or forsake you.”

    Heavenly Father, we pray for strength and courage for our loved one in hospice. May they feel Your presence with them, giving them the fortitude to face each day without fear.

    “My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.”

    “Jesus said to her, ‘I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in me, though he die, yet shall he live, and everyone who lives and believes in me shall never die. Do you believe this?’”

    Loving Father, we thank You for the promise of resurrection and eternal life through Jesus Christ. We pray that our loved one in hospice would find hope and comfort in this assurance.

    May their faith be strengthened, knowing that in You, death is not the end, but the beginning of eternal life.

    24. Isaiah 43:2

    “When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and through the rivers, they shall not overwhelm you; when you walk through fire you shall not be burned, and the flame shall not consume you.”

    Heavenly Father, we thank You for Your promise to be with us through every trial and challenge. We pray that our loved one in hospice would feel Your presence as they pass through the waters and walk through the fire.

    25. Matthew 5:4

    “Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted.”

    Gracious God, we lift up our loved one in hospice and their family who may be mourning during this difficult time. We pray that You would comfort them with Your love and grace.

    Lord, we ask that You surround them with Your peace and let them know that You are always with them. Help them to trust in Your plan and to find hope in the assurance of Your eternal love.

    26. Proverbs 3:5-6

    “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.”

    Heavenly Father, we pray that our loved one in hospice would trust in You with all their heart. Help them to lean not on their own understanding, but to acknowledge You in all their ways.

    “Rejoice in hope, be patient in tribulation, be constant in prayer.”

    30. 2 Corinthians 4:16-18

    “So we do not lose heart. Though our outer self is wasting away, our inner self is being renewed day by day. For this light momentary affliction is preparing for us an eternal weight of glory beyond all comparison, as we look not to the things that are seen but to the things that are unseen. For the things that are seen are transient, but the things that are unseen are eternal.”

    Heavenly Father, we pray that our loved one in hospice would find strength and hope in Your promises. Help them to not lose heart, but to be renewed day by day.
