Two people, standing in front of everyone who matters to them, about to make a promise neither one can fully understand the weight of yet. That is what a wedding actually is, and scripture takes it just as seriously, from Jesus turning water into wine at a wedding in Cana to Isaiah comparing God’s own love for His people to a groom rejoicing over his bride.
The thirty verses below are meant to be prayed over a wedding, whether it is your own coming up, or one you have been asked to help bless. They work well read aloud during a ceremony, or prayed quietly the morning of.
A wedding day passes in a blur for almost everyone who lives through one. Let a few of these slow it down.
Prayer for Wedding
1. Genesis 2:24 (KJV)
“Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh.”
Prayer: Father, a man leaves his parents and is united to his wife, and the two become one flesh. Let that union begin today, genuinely and fully.
Let this new family truly start today, not just be declared.
2. Ecclesiastes 4:12 (KJV)
“And if one prevail against him, two shall withstand him; and a threefold cord is not quickly broken.”
Prayer: Lord, a cord of three strands is not easily broken. Let You be the third strand in this marriage from its very first day.
Let this marriage be built on something sturdier than just their love for each other.
3. Mark 10:9 (KJV)
“What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder.”
Prayer: Father, what You join together today, let nothing ever separate.
Let this union carry Your authority behind it, not just a legal signature.
4. Song of Solomon 8:6-7 (KJV)
“Set me as a seal upon thine heart, as a seal upon thine arm: for love is strong as death; jealousy is cruel as the grave: the coals thereof are coals of fire, which hath a most vehement flame. Many waters cannot quench love, neither can the floods drown it: if a man would give all the substance of his house for love, it would utterly be contemned.”
Prayer: Lord, love is as strong as death, many waters cannot quench it. Let that same strength describe this marriage from today forward.
Let this love only deepen through whatever comes next.
5. 1 Corinthians 13:4-7 (KJV)
“Charity suffereth long, and is kind; charity envieth not; charity vaunteth not itself, is not puffed up, Doth not behave itself unseemly, seeketh not her own, is not easily provoked, thinketh no evil; Rejoiceth not in iniquity, but rejoiceth in the truth; Beareth all things, believeth all things, hopeth all things, endureth all things.”
Prayer: Father, let their love be patient and kind, keeping no record of wrongs, always protecting, trusting, hoping, persevering.
Let this be the actual standard they hold their marriage to, not just words read today.
6. Ruth 1:16 (KJV)
“And Ruth said, Intreat me not to leave thee, or to return from following after thee: for whither thou goest, I will go; and where thou lodgest, I will lodge: thy people shall be my people, and thy God my God:”
Prayer: Lord, let their commitment be as unwavering as Ruth’s, wherever you go I will go.
Let loyalty define this marriage, especially in seasons harder than today.
7. Proverbs 18:22 (KJV)
“Whoso findeth a wife findeth a good thing, and obtaineth favour of the LORD.”
Prayer: Father, whoever finds a spouse finds a good thing and receives favor from You.
Let them keep seeing each other as this good gift, long after today.
8. Colossians 3:14 (KJV)

Let love remain the foundation, even through disagreements ahead.
9. John 2:1 (KJV)
“And the third day there was a marriage in Cana of Galilee; and the mother of Jesus was there:”
Prayer: Father, Jesus was present at a wedding, and His presence changed everything about that day. Let Him be present at this one too.
Let this marriage carry His presence long after the guests go home.
10. Psalms 128:1-4 (KJV)
“Blessed is every one that feareth the LORD; that walketh in his ways. For thou shalt eat the labour of thine hands: happy shalt thou be, and it shall be well with thee. Thy wife shall be as a fruitful vine by the sides of thine house: thy children like olive plants round about thy table. Behold, that thus shall the man be blessed that feareth the LORD.”
Prayer: Lord, blessed is everyone who fears You. Let this couple be blessed with a fruitful, flourishing home from this day on.
Let this blessing be tangible in the years ahead, not just wished for today.
11. Hebrews 13:4 (KJV)
“Marriage is honourable in all, and the bed undefiled: but whoremongers and adulterers God will judge.”
Prayer: Father, let marriage be honored by this couple, and the marriage bed kept pure, from this day forward.
Let faithfulness be actively protected, not just assumed because vows were spoken.
12. Numbers 6:24-26 (KJV)
“The LORD bless thee, and keep thee: The LORD make his face shine upon thee, and be gracious unto thee: The LORD lift up his countenance upon thee, and give thee peace.”
Prayer: Lord, bless this couple and keep them, make Your face shine on them, and give them peace on this day and always.
Let this ancient blessing rest over their marriage from its very beginning.
13. Jeremiah 29:11 (KJV)
“For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.”
Prayer: Father, You know the plans You have for this marriage, plans to prosper them and give them hope and a future.
Let their future together unfold according to those good plans.
14. Genesis 2:18 (KJV)
“And the LORD God said, It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him an help meet for him.”
Prayer: Lord, You said it is not good to be alone, and made a helper fit for him. Let this couple keep being that gift to each other.
Let partnership, not isolation, mark every season starting today.
15. Ephesians 5:31-33 (KJV)
“For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and shall be joined unto his wife, and they two shall be one flesh. This is a great mystery: but I speak concerning Christ and the church. Nevertheless let every one of you in particular so love his wife even as himself; and the wife see that she reverence her husband.”
Prayer: Father, let him love her as himself, and let her respect him deeply, as this marriage genuinely begins today.
Let love and respect grow together from this day forward, not one without the other.
16. Psalms 20:4 (KJV)
“Grant thee according to thine own heart, and fulfil all thy counsel.”
Prayer: Lord, grant them their heart’s desire and make their plans succeed, starting with this marriage today.
Let their hopes for this marriage align with what You already want for them.
17. 3 John 1:2 (KJV)
“Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth.”
Prayer: Father, I pray they prosper in every way and enjoy good health, just as their souls are prospering, in this new life together.
Let this prosperity cover their whole life together, not just today.
18. Philippians 1:6 (KJV)
“Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ:”
Prayer: Lord, You who begin a good work will carry it on to completion. Let this marriage be that good work, carried faithfully forward.
Let me trust this is only the beginning of something You are still writing.
19. Romans 15:5 (KJV)
“Now the God of patience and consolation grant you to be likeminded one toward another according to Christ Jesus:”
Prayer: Father, may You, who gives endurance and encouragement, grant this couple a spirit of unity as they follow Christ together.
Let unity of spirit grow, not just tolerance of each other’s differences.
20. Psalms 118:24 (KJV)

Let this earthly marriage point, even faintly, toward something eternal.
22. Isaiah 62:5 (KJV)
“For as a young man marrieth a virgin, so shall thy sons marry thee: and as the bridegroom rejoiceth over the bride, so shall thy God rejoice over thee.”
Prayer: Lord, as a bridegroom rejoices over his bride, so You rejoice over Your people. Let that same delight be evident in this marriage.
Let them delight in each other the way You delight in each of them.
23. Song of Solomon 2:10-13 (KJV)

For, lo, the winter is past, the rain is over and gone; The flowers appear on the earth; the time of the singing of birds is come, and the voice of the turtle is heard in our land; The fig tree putteth forth her green figs, and the vines with the tender grape give a good smell. Arise, my love, my fair one, and come away.”
Prayer: Father, arise, my love, my beautiful one, come away with me. Let that same delight in each other only grow.
Let this spring-like joy return again and again through the years ahead.
24. Matthew 19:6 (KJV)
“Wherefore they are no more twain, but one flesh. What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder.”

Let this oneness be genuinely lived out, not just spoken as a phrase today.

Prayer: Lord, let them enjoy life together, all the days given to them.
Let joy in each other’s company remain, long after today’s celebration ends.
29. Philemon 1:25 (KJV)
“The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with your spirit. Amen.”
Prayer: Lord, let the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with this couple’s spirit as they begin their life together.
Let grace be the final word spoken over them as this day closes.
30. Psalms 90:17 (KJV)
“And let the beauty of the LORD our God be upon us: and establish thou the work of our hands upon us; yea, the work of our hands establish thou it.”
Prayer: Father, let Your favor rest on this couple, and establish the work of their hands, starting with this marriage today.
Let this marriage be genuinely established, not just begun.
Conclusion
Every wedding is really a promise to keep loving someone on the days it comes easily and the days it genuinely does not. Scripture never sugarcoats how much that costs, but it also never treats it as an impossible thing to ask of two people who actually love each other.
Pray a few of these over the couple, or say them silently to yourself if today is your own wedding day.
For the life this marriage is stepping into, short prayer for married couples and love prayer for husband both pair naturally with this one.
