“This is the day the Lord has made,” the psalmist wrote, not “this is a day,” generic and interchangeable, but this specific one, made on purpose, worth being glad in before you even know what it holds.
These thirty verses are for the actual moment your eyes open, before the day has had a chance to earn your attention.
Say one before your feet even hit the floor.
Prayer for Waking Up
1. Psalms 118:24 (KJV)
“This is the day which the LORD hath made; we will rejoice and be glad in it.”
Prayer: This is the day You have made. Let me rejoice and be glad in it, starting right now, before anything else happens.
Let gladness be a choice I make this morning, not something I wait to feel.
2. Lamentations 3:22-23 (KJV)
“It is of the LORD’s mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not. They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness.”
Prayer: Your mercies are new this morning, great is Your faithfulness, whatever yesterday held.
Let today’s mercy be enough for today, not weighed down by yesterday.
3. Psalms 3:5 (KJV)
“I laid me down and slept; I awaked; for the LORD sustained me.”
Prayer: I lay down and slept, I woke again, because You sustained me through the whole night.
Let this waking be proof of last night’s answered prayer.
4. Psalms 5:3 (KJV)
“My voice shalt thou hear in the morning, O LORD; in the morning will I direct my prayer unto thee, and will look up.”
Prayer: In the morning You hear my voice, and I lay my requests before You and wait in expectation.
Let expectation, not just habit, mark how I pray this morning.
5. Genesis 1:5 (KJV)
“And God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And the evening and the morning were the first day.”

Let today feel genuinely new, not just a repeat of yesterday.
6. Psalms 30:5 (KJV)
“For his anger endureth but a moment; in his favour is life: weeping may endure for a night, but joy cometh in the morning.”
Prayer: Weeping may have stayed for the night, but let joy come with this morning.

8. Psalms 59:16 (KJV)
“But I will sing of thy power; yea, I will sing aloud of thy mercy in the morning: for thou hast been my defence and refuge in the day of my trouble.”
Prayer: Let me sing of Your strength this morning, and of Your love, my refuge.
Let singing come before the day gives me a reason to.
9. 2 Corinthians 4:16 (KJV)

Let this morning’s proclamation set the tone for how the day ends too.

“O LORD, be gracious unto us; we have waited for thee: be thou their arm every morning, our salvation also in the time of trouble.”
Prayer: Be my strength every morning, and my salvation in time of trouble, starting with this one.
Let strength be renewed as reliably as this new day itself.
13. Psalms 88:13 (KJV)

Let another day of life be received as the gift it actually is.
15. Psalms 104:23 (KJV)

Let thanksgiving be the first real sentence of my day.
18. Deuteronomy 33:25 (KJV)

19. Psalms 68:19 (KJV)
“Blessed be the Lord, who daily loadeth us with benefits, even the God of our salvation. Selah.”
Prayer: Praise be to You, who daily bears our burdens. Let that daily care start with this very morning.
Let today’s burden already have You underneath it.

Let help arrive at the very start of today, not somewhere in the middle.
22. Isaiah 50:4 (KJV)
“The Lord GOD hath given me the tongue of the learned, that I should know how to speak a word in season to him that is weary: he wakeneth morning by morning, he wakeneth mine ear to hear as the learned.”

Let this waking include real attentiveness, not just physical alertness.
23. Psalms 57:8 (KJV)

Let urgency and gratitude both mark how I spend today.

Let this be the first real thing I hear today, before anything else.
Conclusion
Waking up is easy to take for granted right up until it isn’t guaranteed anymore. It was never actually ordinary, just familiar.
Say this before you reach for your phone, while the day is still fully unwritten.
For what comes right after, a morning prayer for peace is the natural next step once you’re actually up.
