30 Prayer for a New Job With Scriptures to Back

Joseph went from a prison cell to Pharaoh’s palace in a single day, put in charge of all Egypt with no résumé to speak of, just a track record of faithfulness in whatever position he’d held before, prison included.

These thirty verses are for a new job, whatever stage it’s at, applying, interviewing, starting, or settling in, trusting the same God who positioned Joseph is positioning you too.

Pray these across the whole process, not just the interview itself.

Prayer for a New Job

1. Genesis 41:41 (KJV)

“And Pharaoh said unto Joseph, See, I have set thee over all the land of Egypt.”

Prayer: You positioned Joseph exactly where he needed to be, right when it mattered. Position me too.

Let this new role open at exactly the right time, not too early or too late.

2. Genesis 39:2-3 (KJV)

“And the LORD was with Joseph, and he was a prosperous man; and he was in the house of his master the Egyptian. And his master saw that the LORD was with him, and that the LORD made all that he did to prosper in his hand.”

Prayer: You were with Joseph, and he prospered because You were with him. Be with me the same way.

Let Your presence be what actually makes this new work go well.

3. Proverbs 16:3 (KJV)

“Commit thy works unto the LORD, and thy thoughts shall be established.”

Prayer: Let me commit this whole job search to You, and let my plans succeed.

Let this be Your plan I’m stepping into, not just mine.

4. Proverbs 22:29 (KJV)

“Seest thou a man diligent in his business? he shall stand before kings; he shall not stand before mean men.”

Prayer: Let me be skilled in my work, so I stand before people who matter, not before obscurity.

Let diligence now be seen and rewarded in this new role.

5. Psalms 90:17 (KJV)

“And let the beauty of the LORD our God be upon us: and establish thou the work of our hands upon us; yea, the work of our hands establish thou it.”

Prayer: Let Your favor rest on me, and establish the work of my hands.

Let this new role be built on something solid, not shaky.

6. Deuteronomy 28:8 (KJV)

“The LORD shall command the blessing upon thee in thy storehouses, and in all that thou settest thine hand unto; and he shall bless thee in the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee.”

Prayer: Command Your blessing on everything I put my hand to in this new position.

Let blessing follow me into this role from day one.

7. Deuteronomy 8:18 (KJV)

“But thou shalt remember the LORD thy God: for it is he that giveth thee power to get wealth, that he may establish his covenant which he sware unto thy fathers, as it is this day.”

Prayer: Let me remember it is You who gives me the ability to do well in this.

Let credit stay rightly Yours, even as I do the actual work.

8. Philippians 4:6-7 (KJV)

“Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.”

Prayer: Let me bring every part of this job process to You, and let peace guard my heart while I wait.

Let peace replace the anxiety that comes with uncertainty.

9. Philippians 4:19 (KJV)

“But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.”

Prayer: You will supply all my needs, including provision through the right job.

Let provision come through this door or one You open instead.

10. Jeremiah 29:11 (KJV)

“For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.”

Prayer: You know the plans You have for me, plans to prosper me and give me hope and a future.

Let this new job be part of that good plan, not a detour from it.

11. Psalms 37:4 (KJV)

“Delight thyself also in the LORD: and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart.”

Prayer: Let me delight myself in You, and let You give me the desires of my heart in this.

Let my desire for this role line up with what You already have planned.

12. Psalms 37:5 (KJV)

“Commit thy way unto the LORD; trust also in him; and he shall bring it to pass.”

Prayer: Let me commit this whole search to You, trusting You to act.

Let trust replace my own striving to force an outcome.

13. Proverbs 3:5-6 (KJV)

“Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.”

Prayer: Let me trust in You with all my heart, not leaning on my own understanding of this process.

Let You make my path straight, even through applications and interviews.

14. Colossians 3:23-24 (KJV)

“And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men; Knowing that of the Lord ye shall receive the reward of the inheritance: for ye serve the Lord Christ.”

Prayer: Whatever I do in this new role, let me work at it with all my heart, as for You.

Let purpose show up in the work itself, not just the paycheck.

15. Ecclesiastes 9:10 (KJV)

“Whatsoever thy hand findeth to do, do it with thy might; for there is no work, nor device, nor knowledge, nor wisdom, in the grave, whither thou goest.”

Prayer: Whatever my hand finds to do, let me do it with all my might.

Let effort show up from day one in this new role.

16. Psalms 1:1-3 (KJV)

“Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful. But his delight is in the law of the LORD; and in his law doth he meditate day and night. And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper.”

Prayer: Let me be like a tree planted by streams of water, so whatever I do prospers.

Let roots in You be what actually makes this fruitful.

17. Psalms 20:4 (KJV)

“Grant thee according to thine own heart, and fulfil all thy counsel.”

Prayer: Grant me the desire of my heart, and make my plans succeed.

Let this specific desire for the right job be answered.

18. Isaiah 65:24 (KJV)

“And it shall come to pass, that before they call, I will answer; and while they are yet speaking, I will hear.”

Prayer: Before I call, You will answer, while I’m still speaking, You will hear.

Let the answer come sooner than I expect.

19. Matthew 7:7-8 (KJV)

“Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you: For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened.”

Prayer: I’m asking, seeking, knocking on doors right now. Let one of them open.

Let persistence not turn into discouragement while I wait.

20. James 1:5 (KJV)

“If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.”

Prayer: I lack wisdom in this decision, give it to me generously.

Let wisdom guide which door I actually walk through.

21. Proverbs 16:9 (KJV)

“A man’s heart deviseth his way: but the LORD directeth his steps.”

Prayer: I make my plans for this job, but let You establish my actual steps.

Let my plans bend toward Yours, not the other way around.

22. Psalms 75:6-7 (KJV)

“For promotion cometh neither from the east, nor from the west, nor from the south. But God is the judge: he putteth down one, and setteth up another.”

Prayer: Promotion doesn’t come from any direction but You. You are the judge, You decide.

Let this promotion, if it comes, come clearly from You.

23. 1 Samuel 2:7-8 (KJV)

“The LORD maketh poor, and maketh rich: he bringeth low, and lifteth up. He raiseth up the poor out of the dust, and lifteth up the beggar from the dunghill, to set them among princes, and to make them inherit the throne of glory: for the pillars of the earth are the LORD’s, and he hath set the world upon them.”

Prayer: You raise the poor from the dust and lift the needy from the ash heap to seat them with the noble.

Let this same lifting be true in my own situation.

24. Psalms 84:11 (KJV)

“For the LORD God is a sun and shield: the LORD will give grace and glory: no good thing will he withhold from them that walk uprightly.”

Prayer: You withhold no good thing from those who walk uprightly.

Let me trust that promise while I’m still waiting to hear back.

25. Habakkuk 2:3 (KJV)

“For the vision is yet for an appointed time, but at the end it shall speak, and not lie: though it tarry, wait for it; because it will surely come, it will not tarry.”

Prayer: This has an appointed time, it will not be late. Let me wait for it without giving up.

Let trust in Your timing replace my own impatience.

26. Isaiah 43:19 (KJV)

“Behold, I will do a new thing; now it shall spring forth; shall ye not know it? I will even make a way in the wilderness, and rivers in the desert.”

Prayer: You are doing a new thing. Let this new job be part of it.

Let me recognize this new thing when it actually shows up.

27. Psalms 23:1 (KJV)

“The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want.”

Prayer: You are my shepherd, I lack nothing, including provision through the right work.

Let this truth settle any anxiety about income or timing.

28. Genesis 39:21 (KJV)

“But the LORD was with Joseph, and shewed him mercy, and gave him favour in the sight of the keeper of the prison.”

Prayer: You showed Joseph kindness even before his promotion came. Show me that same kindness now, in the waiting.

Let favor show up even before the outcome does.

29. Luke 12:24 (KJV)

“Consider the ravens: for they neither sow nor reap; which neither have storehouse nor barn; and God feedeth them: how much more are ye better than the fowls?”

Prayer: The ravens don’t sow or reap, yet You feed them. Let me trust You the same way here.

Let provision come even in the space between jobs.

30. Numbers 6:24-26 (KJV)

“The LORD bless thee, and keep thee: The LORD make his face shine upon thee, and be gracious unto thee: The LORD lift up his countenance upon thee, and give thee peace.”

Prayer: Bless me and keep me, make Your face shine on me, and give me peace through this whole process.

Let this old blessing cover every step, from application to first day.

Conclusion

Joseph’s promotion didn’t come from a polished résumé. It came from a track record of faithfulness in whatever role he was actually in, even a prison cell, and from a God who positioned him at exactly the right moment. That’s still how this works.

Stay faithful in whatever you’re doing right now, while you pray and wait for the next door to open.

For the offer itself once it comes, a prayer for a job offer and a prayer for career success are both good ones to keep praying.
