30 Prayer for Communion at Home With Scriptures to Back

On the night He was betrayed, Jesus took ordinary bread and wine already on the table and gave them new meaning: “Do this in remembrance of me.” Not a formal ceremony requiring a specific building, a meal, shared at a table, turned into something sacred.

These thirty verses are for taking communion at your own table, whether you’re alone, with family, or unable to get to a church service.

Read these slowly before you eat and drink, letting the ordinary elements carry their full weight.

Prayer for Communion at Home

1. 1 Corinthians 11:23-26 (KJV)

“For I have received of the Lord that which also I delivered unto you, That the Lord Jesus the same night in which he was betrayed took bread: And when he had given thanks, he brake it, and said, Take, eat: this is my body, which is broken for you: this do in remembrance of me. After the same manner also he took the cup, when he had supped, saying, This cup is the new testament in my blood: this do ye, as oft as ye drink it, in remembrance of me. For as often as ye eat this bread, and drink this cup, ye do shew the Lord’s death till he come.”

Prayer: Let me do this in remembrance of You, taking this bread and cup with real intention, not out of habit.

Let remembrance today be full attention, not a rushed formality.

2. Luke 22:19-20 (KJV)

“And he took bread, and gave thanks, and brake it, and gave unto them, saying, This is my body which is given for you: this do in remembrance of me. Likewise also the cup after supper, saying, This cup is the new testament in my blood, which is shed for you.”

Prayer: This is Your body, given for me. This cup is the new covenant in Your blood, poured out for me.

Let this truth feel personal, not just historical.

3. Matthew 26:26-28 (KJV)

“And as they were eating, Jesus took bread, and blessed it, and brake it, and gave it to the disciples, and said, Take, eat; this is my body. And he took the cup, and gave thanks, and gave it to them, saying, Drink ye all of it; For this is my blood of the new testament, which is shed for many for the remission of sins.”

Prayer: Let me take and eat, trusting this represents Your body, and drink, trusting this represents Your blood, poured out for forgiveness.

Let forgiveness be as real to me today as it was at that first table.

4. 1 Corinthians 11:27-29 (KJV)

“Wherefore whosoever shall eat this bread, and drink this cup of the Lord, unworthily, shall be guilty of the body and blood of the Lord. But let a man examine himself, and so let him eat of that bread, and drink of that cup. For he that eateth and drinketh unworthily, eateth and drinketh damnation to himself, not discerning the Lord’s body.”

Prayer: Let me examine myself honestly before this table, not approaching it carelessly.

Let honest self-examination come before I take this, not instead of taking it.

5. John 6:53-56 (KJV)

“Then Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except ye eat the flesh of the Son of man, and drink his blood, ye have no life in you. Whoso eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood, hath eternal life; and I will raise him up at the last day. For my flesh is meat indeed, and my blood is drink indeed. He that eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood, dwelleth in me, and I in him.”

Prayer: Let me remain in You, and You in me, through this act of remembering.

Let this moment deepen closeness, not just mark an obligation fulfilled.

6. 1 Corinthians 10:16-17 (KJV)

“The cup of blessing which we bless, is it not the communion of the blood of Christ? The bread which we break, is it not the communion of the body of Christ? For we being many are one bread, and one body: for we are all partakers of that one bread.”

Prayer: Let this cup of thanksgiving be real participation in Your blood, and this bread real participation in Your body.

Let participation mean something more than symbolism alone.

7. Exodus 12:14 (KJV)

“And this day shall be unto you for a memorial; and ye shall keep it a feast to the LORD throughout your generations; ye shall keep it a feast by an ordinance for ever.”

Prayer: Let this be a lasting way I commemorate what You’ve done, a regular remembrance, not a once-a-year event.

Let this practice actually become regular, not just occasional.

8. Psalms 34:8 (KJV)

“O taste and see that the LORD is good: blessed is the man that trusteth in him.”

Prayer: Let me taste and see that You are good, right here at this ordinary table.

Let this simple meal become a real encounter with You.

9. Isaiah 53:5 (KJV)

“But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.”

Prayer: By Your wounds I am healed. Let that ancient promise be present tense at this table today.

Let this remembrance reach beyond the spiritual, into whatever else needs healing.

10. John 1:29 (KJV)

“The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world.”

Prayer: You are the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world, including mine, right now.

Let this old title feel as real today as it did the day John spoke it.

11. Hebrews 9:22 (KJV)

“And almost all things are by the law purged with blood; and without shedding of blood is no remission.”

Prayer: Without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness. Let me not take that cost lightly at this table.

Let gratitude for this cost shape how seriously I take this moment.

12. Hebrews 10:19-22 (KJV)

“Having therefore, brethren, boldness to enter into the holiest by the blood of Jesus, By a new and living way, which he hath consecrated for us, through the veil, that is to say, his flesh; And having an high priest over the house of God; Let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience, and our bodies washed with pure water.”

Prayer: Let me have confidence to enter Your presence by the blood of Jesus, drawing near with a sincere heart.

Let confidence come from what this table represents, not from my own worthiness.

13. Colossians 1:20 (KJV)

“And, having made peace through the blood of his cross, by him to reconcile all things unto himself; by him, I say, whether they be things in earth, or things in heaven.”

Prayer: You made peace through the blood of the cross. Let that peace be real to me at this table today.

Let peace, not guilt, be what I actually feel here.

14. Romans 5:8-9 (KJV)

“But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him.”

Prayer: While I was still a sinner, Christ died for me, and now I’m justified by His blood.

Let this timing settle any doubt about whether I’m worthy to sit at this table.

15. 1 Peter 1:18-19 (KJV)

“Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers; But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot:”

Prayer: I was redeemed not with silver or gold, but with Your precious blood, a lamb without blemish.

Let the cost of this meal settle how seriously I take it.

16. Revelation 1:5 (KJV)

“And from Jesus Christ, who is the faithful witness, and the first begotten of the dead, and the prince of the kings of the earth. Unto him that loved us, and washed us from our sins in his own blood,”

Prayer: You love me and freed me from my sins by Your blood. Let that freedom be real at this table.

Let love be the reason behind this remembrance, not obligation.

17. 1 John 1:7 (KJV)

“But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.”

Prayer: Your blood purifies me from all sin, not just the ones I remember to confess.

Let purification here be as complete as this verse describes.

18. Ephesians 1:7 (KJV)

“In whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace;”

Prayer: Through Your blood I have redemption, forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of Your grace.

Let grace here feel as rich as this verse describes.

19. Psalms 116:12-13 (KJV)

“What shall I render unto the LORD for all his benefits toward me? I will take the cup of salvation, and call upon the name of the LORD.”

Prayer: What can I give back for all Your goodness? Let me lift up this cup of salvation and call on Your name.

Let gratitude be the posture I bring to this table.

20. 1 Corinthians 5:7 (KJV)

“Purge out therefore the old leaven, that ye may be a new lump, as ye are unleavened. For even Christ our passover is sacrificed for us:”

Prayer: Christ, our Passover lamb, has been sacrificed. Let that ancient picture become clear to me here.

Let this table connect me to the whole story, not just this one moment.

21. John 15:5 (KJV)

“I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing.”

Prayer: You are the vine, I am a branch. Let me remain in You, especially through this act of remembering.

Let this remembrance strengthen how connected I actually feel to You.

22. Psalms 23:5 (KJV)

“Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.”

Prayer: You prepare a table before me, and my cup overflows. Let this ordinary table feel like that one.

Let overflow, not scarcity, mark how I approach this meal.

23. Isaiah 25:6 (KJV)

“And in this mountain shall the LORD of hosts make unto all people a feast of fat things, a feast of wines on the lees, of fat things full of marrow, of wines on the lees well refined.”

Prayer: You prepare a feast of rich food for all peoples. Let this simple meal point toward that greater one still coming.

Let this table be a small taste of what’s still ahead.

24. Matthew 26:29 (KJV)

“But I say unto you, I will not drink henceforth of this fruit of the vine, until that day when I drink it new with you in my Father’s kingdom.”

Prayer: You will drink this new with us in Your Father’s kingdom. Let that future hope be part of what I remember here today.

Let this table point forward, not just backward.

25. 1 Corinthians 11:26 (KJV)

“For as often as ye eat this bread, and drink this cup, ye do shew the Lord’s death till he come.”

Prayer: Let this meal proclaim Your death until You come, at this table just as much as at any church one.

Let this proclamation be real, even eaten alone at my own table.

26. Psalms 34:18 (KJV)

“The LORD is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart; and saveth such as be of a contrite spirit.”

Prayer: You are close to the brokenhearted. Be close to mine at this table today.

Let this table be a place of real nearness, not just ritual.

27. John 6:35 (KJV)

“And Jesus said unto them, I am the bread of life: he that cometh to me shall never hunger; and he that believeth on me shall never thirst.”

Prayer: You are the bread of life. Let me come to You hungry and leave truly satisfied.

Let this bread satisfy something deeper than physical hunger.

28. 2 Corinthians 5:21 (KJV)

“For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.”

Prayer: You who had no sin became sin for me, so I might become Your righteousness.

Let this exchange be what I actually remember at this table.

29. Galatians 2:20 (KJV)

“I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.”

Prayer: I have been crucified with Christ, and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me.

Let this identity be renewed every time I sit down to remember You this way.

30. Numbers 6:24-26 (KJV)

“The LORD bless thee, and keep thee: The LORD make his face shine upon thee, and be gracious unto thee: The LORD lift up his countenance upon thee, and give thee peace.”

Prayer: Bless me at this table and keep me, make Your face shine on me, and give me peace.

Let this old blessing rest over this simple, sacred meal.

Conclusion

The very first communion happened around an ordinary meal, not in a specially built sanctuary. Wherever the bread and the cup are shared with real remembrance, that upper room is present too.

Take your time. This isn’t a moment to rush through.

For the wider context of what this meal points back to, the story of the Last Supper and prayers for Good Friday pair well with this one.
