30 Prayer for Mothers Everywhere With Scriptures to Back

“I prayed for this child, and the Lord has granted me what I asked of him,” Hannah said, handing her long-awaited son over to serve at the temple, keeping the promise she’d made in her most desperate season. Motherhood in Scripture is full of women like her, praying fiercely, waiting, grieving, and rejoicing, often all in the same story.

These thirty verses are for mothers everywhere, in every season, new mothers, exhausted mothers, grieving mothers, and mothers celebrating who their children have become. For a specific day set aside to honor them, a prayer for Mother’s Day is worth praying too.

Pray these for a mother in your life, or over yourself if you’re the one raising children right now.

Prayer for Mothers Everywhere

1. 1 Samuel 1:27 (KJV)

“For this child I prayed; and the LORD hath given me my petition which I asked of him:”

Prayer: Like Hannah, let prayers for children be genuinely heard and answered.

Let mothers who are still waiting and praying find that same answer.

2. 1 Samuel 2:1 (KJV)

“And Hannah prayed, and said, My heart rejoiceth in the LORD, mine horn is exalted in the LORD: my mouth is enlarged over mine enemies; because I rejoice in thy salvation.”

Prayer: Let mothers’ hearts rejoice in You, their strength lifted up.

Let joy be real for mothers today, not just exhaustion.

3. Proverbs 31:25-28 (KJV)

“Strength and honour are her clothing; and she shall rejoice in time to come. She openeth her mouth with wisdom; and in her tongue is the law of kindness. She looketh well to the ways of her household, and eateth not the bread of idleness. Her children arise up, and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praiseth her.”

Prayer: Let mothers be clothed with strength and dignity, and let them laugh without fear of the future.

Let this strength be visible in the mothers I know.

4. Isaiah 66:13 (KJV)

“As one whom his mother comforteth, so will I comfort you; and ye shall be comforted in Jerusalem.”

Prayer: As a mother comforts her child, so You comfort them too.

Let mothers receive the same tenderness they give.

5. Luke 1:46-49 (KJV)

“And Mary said, My soul doth magnify the Lord, And my spirit hath rejoiced in God my Saviour. For he hath regarded the low estate of his handmaiden: for, behold, from henceforth all generations shall call me blessed. For he that is mighty hath done to me great things; and holy is his name.”

Prayer: Like Mary, let mothers’ souls glorify You, rejoicing in You their Savior.

Let this same wonder be real for mothers today, not just routine.

6. Luke 2:19 (KJV)

“But Mary kept all these things, and pondered them in her heart.”

Prayer: Like Mary, let mothers treasure these things and ponder them in their hearts.

Let mothers not rush past the small moments worth remembering.

7. Genesis 21:6 (KJV)

“And Sarah said, God hath made me to laugh, so that all that hear will laugh with me.”

Prayer: Like Sarah, let You bring laughter to mothers who have waited a long time.

Let joy come, even after years of waiting.

8. Exodus 2:2-3 (KJV)

“And the woman conceived, and bare a son: and when she saw him that he was a goodly child, she hid him three months. And when she could not longer hide him, she took for him an ark of bulrushes, and daubed it with slime and with pitch, and put the child therein; and she laid it in the flags by the river’s brink.”

Prayer: Like Moses’ mother, let mothers protect their children with courage and creativity.

Let this same courage rise up in mothers facing hard circumstances.

9. 1 Kings 17:22-23 (KJV)

“And the LORD heard the voice of Elijah; and the soul of the child came into him again, and he revived. And Elijah took the child, and brought him down out of the chamber into the house, and delivered him unto his mother: and Elijah said, See, thy son liveth.”

Prayer: Let You restore what feels lost, the way You restored that widow’s son.

Let grieving mothers know this same restoration in their own way.

10. Ruth 4:15-16 (KJV)

“And he shall be unto thee a restorer of thy life, and a nourisher of thine old age: for thy daughter in law, which loveth thee, which is better to thee than seven sons, hath born him. And Naomi took the child, and laid it in her bosom, and became nurse unto it.”

Prayer: Let mothers be sustained, even in unexpected seasons of their lives.

Let this sustaining reach mothers in every stage, young and old.

11. Titus 2:3-5 (KJV)

“The aged women likewise, that they be in behaviour as becometh holiness, not false accusers, not given to much wine, teachers of good things; That they may teach the young women to be sober, to love their husbands, to love their children, To be discreet, chaste, keepers at home, good, obedient to their own husbands, that the word of God be not blasphemed.”

Prayer: Let mothers be taught and encouraged by other women further along than they are.

Let mothers not feel like they have to figure this out entirely alone.

12. Psalms 113:9 (KJV)

“He maketh the barren woman to keep house, and to be a joyful mother of children. Praise ye the LORD.”

Prayer: Let You settle the childless woman in her home, and give her joy as a happy mother.

Let this promise cover mothers by adoption, by circumstance, and by love, not only by birth.

13. Psalms 127:3 (KJV)

“Lo, children are an heritage of the LORD: and the fruit of the womb is his reward.”

Prayer: Children are a heritage from You, a reward.

Let mothers see their children this way, even on exhausting days.

14. Psalms 139:13-14 (KJV)

“For thou hast possessed my reins: thou hast covered me in my mother’s womb. I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvellous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well.”

Prayer: You knit each child together, fearfully and wonderfully made.

Let mothers see their children the way You see them.

15. Proverbs 22:6 (KJV)

Prayer: Let mothers train up their children well, in the way they should go.

Let this training bear fruit long after the child grows up.

16. Deuteronomy 6:6-7 (KJV)

“And these words, which I command thee this day, shall be in thine heart: And thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children, and shalt talk of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, and when thou liest down, and when thou risest up.”

Prayer: Let mothers pass Your words to their children, in ordinary, everyday moments.

Let this teaching happen naturally, not as a burden.

17. 3 John 1:4 (KJV)

“I have no greater joy than to hear that my children walk in truth.”

Prayer: There’s no greater joy than hearing children are walking in the truth.

Let mothers experience this exact joy in their own children.

18. Isaiah 49:15 (KJV)

“Can a woman forget her sucking child, that she should not have compassion on the son of her womb? yea, they may forget, yet will I not forget thee.”

Prayer: Even if a mother could forget, You will never forget those You love.

Let mothers feel remembered by You on days they feel invisible.

19. Psalms 71:6 (KJV)

“By thee have I been holden up from the womb: thou art he that took me out of my mother’s bowels: my praise shall be continually of thee.”

Let this reliance be a comfort, not a burden.

20. Matthew 19:14 (KJV)

Prayer: Let children come to You, and let no one hinder them.

Let mothers raise children who genuinely know You.

21. Mark 10:16 (KJV)

“He shall feed his flock like a shepherd: he shall gather the lambs with his arm, and carry them in his bosom, and shall gently lead those that are with young.”

Prayer: You tend Your flock like a shepherd, gathering the lambs and carrying them close to Your heart.

Let mothers be carried this same way, especially the exhausted ones.

24. Psalms 34:18 (KJV)

“The LORD is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart; and saveth such as be of a contrite spirit.”

Prayer: You are close to the brokenhearted, and You save those crushed in spirit.

Let this nearness reach mothers grieving a child, in whatever way that grief looks.

25. 2 Corinthians 1:3-4 (KJV)

“Blessed be God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies, and the God of all comfort; Who comforteth us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort them which are in any trouble, by the comfort wherewith we ourselves are comforted of God.”

Prayer: You are the God of all comfort, comfort every mother carrying something hard right now.

Let comfort reach mothers who feel like they can’t ask for it.

26. Jeremiah 31:16-17 (KJV)

“Thus saith the LORD; Refrain thy voice from weeping, and thine eyes from tears: for thy work shall be rewarded, saith the LORD; and they shall come again from the land of the enemy. And there is hope in thine end, saith the LORD, that thy children shall come again to their own border.”

Prayer: Let mothers who weep find their work rewarded, and let there be hope for their future.

Let this hope be real, even for mothers who’ve lost a child.

Let this old blessing reach every mother, wherever she is today.

Let this promise hold even when motherhood feels like too much.

29. Proverbs 31:30 (KJV)

“Favour is deceitful, and beauty is vain: but a woman that feareth the LORD, she shall be praised.”

Prayer: Let mothers who fear You be praised for who they actually are, not just what they do.

Let their worth be seen beyond just their productivity.

30. 2 Kings 4:35-37 (KJV)

“Then he returned, and walked in the house to and fro; and went up, and stretched himself upon him: and the child sneezed seven times, and the child opened his eyes. And he called Gehazi, and said, Call this Shunammite. So he called her. And when she was come in unto him, he said, Take up thy son. Then she went in, and fell at his feet, and bowed herself to the ground, and took up her son, and went out.”

Prayer: Let You restore what mothers thought was lost, the way You restored that Shunammite woman’s son.

Let hope not be foolish, even against hard circumstances.

Conclusion

Hannah didn’t get to keep her son close forever, she gave him back to serve at the temple, exactly as she’d promised. Motherhood in Scripture was never described as simply easy or straightforwardly joyful. It’s full of sacrifice, waiting, fierce love, and real grief, all woven together.

Send this to a mother you know today, with a specific memory of something she did well.

For a mother’s own gratitude in return, a prayer for a grateful heart is worth sharing with her too.
