30 Prayer for Pets Who Died With Scriptures to Back

“Not one sparrow falls to the ground outside your Father’s care,” Jesus said, talking about the cheapest, most overlooked bird sold in the market. If God notices a sparrow’s death, the loss of an animal that shared your actual home and years of your life is not too small a grief to bring to Him.

These thirty verses are for that specific ache, an empty leash by the door, a bowl that doesn’t need filling anymore.

Pray these without apologizing for how much this hurts.

Prayer for Pets Who Died

1. Matthew 10:29 (KJV)

“Are not two sparrows sold for a farthing? and one of them shall not fall on the ground without your Father.”

Prayer: Not one sparrow falls apart from Your care. Let that same care have covered my pet’s whole life, and this ending too.

Let me trust nothing about this happened outside Your notice.

2. Genesis 1:24-25 (KJV)

“And God said, Let the earth bring forth the living creature after his kind, cattle, and creeping thing, and beast of the earth after his kind: and it was so. And God made the beast of the earth after his kind, and cattle after their kind, and every thing that creepeth upon the earth after his kind: and God saw that it was good.”

Prayer: You made every living creature and called it good. Let me trust my pet’s life was good in Your eyes too.

Let goodness be the truest word over the years we had together.

3. Job 12:7-10 (KJV)

“But ask now the beasts, and they shall teach thee; and the fowls of the air, and they shall tell thee: Or speak to the earth, and it shall teach thee: and the fishes of the sea shall declare unto thee. Who knoweth not in all these that the hand of the LORD hath wrought this? In whose hand is the soul of every living thing, and the breath of all mankind.”

Prayer: In Your hand is the life of every creature. Let me trust my pet’s life, and its ending, rested there the whole time.

Let this truth steady me even without knowing every detail.

4. Psalms 145:9 (KJV)

“The LORD is good to all: and his tender mercies are over all his works.”

Prayer: You are good to all, and Your compassion is over everything You have made, including this animal I loved.

Let Your compassion have covered my pet completely.

5. Psalms 36:6 (KJV)

“Thy righteousness is like the great mountains; thy judgments are a great deep: O LORD, thou preservest man and beast.”

Prayer: You preserve both people and animals, Lord. Let that preserving have been true for mine.

Let this loss not mean my pet mattered less to You than it did to me.

6. Proverbs 12:10 (KJV)

“A righteous man regardeth the life of his beast: but the tender mercies of the wicked are cruel.”

Prayer: The righteous care for the needs of their animals. Let me trust the care I gave mattered, right up to the end.

Let me not second-guess the love I actually gave.

7. Jonah 4:11 (KJV)

“And should not I spare Nineveh, that great city, wherein are more than sixscore thousand persons that cannot discern between their right hand and their left hand; and also much cattle?”

Prayer: You were concerned about the animals of Nineveh, not just its people. Let that same concern have covered mine.

Let Your compassion reach as far as it did for that whole city’s creatures.

8. Ecclesiastes 3:19-21 (KJV)

“For that which befalleth the sons of men befalleth beasts; even one thing befalleth them: as the one dieth, so dieth the other; yea, they have all one breath; so that a man hath no preeminence above a beast: for all is vanity. All go unto one place; all are of the dust, and all turn to dust again. Who knoweth the spirit of man that goeth upward, and the spirit of the beast that goeth downward to the earth?”

Prayer: Let me remember I share this fate with every creature, and let that humble grief be honest, not something to explain away.

Let this grief be taken seriously, not dismissed as just an animal.

9. Genesis 9:9-10 (KJV)

“And I, behold, I establish my covenant with you, and with your seed after you; And with every living creature that is with you, of the fowl, of the cattle, and of every beast of the earth with you; from all that go out of the ark, to every beast of the earth.”

Prayer: You made a covenant not just with people, but with every living creature. Let my pet have been included in that covenant care.

Let this covenant mean my pet’s life was never overlooked by You.

10. Isaiah 11:6-9 (KJV)

“The wolf also shall dwell with the lamb, and the leopard shall lie down with the kid; and the calf and the young lion and the fatling together; and a little child shall lead them. And the cow and the bear shall feed; their young ones shall lie down together: and the lion shall eat straw like the ox. And the sucking child shall play on the hole of the asp, and the weaned child shall put his hand on the cockatrice’ den. They shall not hurt nor destroy in all my holy mountain: for the earth shall be full of the knowledge of the LORD, as the waters cover the sea.”

Prayer: One day the wolf will live with the lamb, nothing will harm or destroy on Your holy mountain. Let me long for that kind of peace now.

Let this vision of restored creation comfort me in this specific loss.

11. Romans 8:19-21 (KJV)

“For the earnest expectation of the creature waiteth for the manifestation of the sons of God. For the creature was made subject to vanity, not willingly, but by reason of him who hath subjected the same in hope, Because the creature itself also shall be delivered from the bondage of corruption into the glorious liberty of the children of God.”

Prayer: All creation waits to be liberated from decay. Let that hope stretch even to this small, real loss.

Let this grief be part of what that bigger hope actually answers.

12. Psalms 84:3 (KJV)

“Yea, the sparrow hath found an house, and the swallow a nest for herself, where she may lay her young, even thine altars, O LORD of hosts, my King, and my God.”

Prayer: Even the sparrow finds a home, and the swallow a nest, near Your altar. Let there be a place for my pet too, somewhere in Your care.

Let this small mercy toward small creatures comfort me now.

13. Matthew 6:26 (KJV)

“Behold the fowls of the air: for they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feedeth them. Are ye not much better than they?”

Prayer: You feed the birds of the air, who neither sow nor reap. Let that same attentive care have been true for my pet’s whole life.

Let Your provision have never once run out for the creature I loved.

14. Psalms 147:9 (KJV)

“He giveth to the beast his food, and to the young ravens which cry.”

Prayer: You provide food for the cattle and for the young ravens when they call. Let that same provision have covered my pet’s needs too.

Let no need of theirs have ever gone unnoticed by You.

15. Job 38:39-41 (KJV)

“Wilt thou hunt the prey for the lion? or fill the appetite of the young lions, When they couch in their dens, and abide in the covert to lie in wait? Who provideth for the raven his food? when his young ones cry unto God, they wander for lack of meat.”

Prayer: You provide for the lion and the raven. Let me trust that same providence held my pet’s whole life, start to finish.

Let Your care be as detailed for animals as this passage describes.

16. Psalms 50:10-11 (KJV)

“For every beast of the forest is mine, and the cattle upon a thousand hills. I know all the fowls of the mountains: and the wild beasts of the field are mine.”

Prayer: Every animal of the forest is Yours, the cattle on a thousand hills. Let me trust my pet belonged to You even while it belonged to me.

Let ownership here comfort me, not complicate the loss.

17. Revelation 21:4 (KJV)

“And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.”

Prayer: One day You will wipe every tear from my eyes, including these, over this loss too.

Let hope for that day soften how heavy today feels.

18. Isaiah 65:25 (KJV)

“The wolf and the lamb shall feed together, and the lion shall eat straw like the bullock: and dust shall be the serpent’s meat. They shall not hurt nor destroy in all my holy mountain, saith the LORD.”

Prayer: One day the wolf and the lamb will feed together. Let this promised peace be something I can hold onto now.

Let this vision of restored creation give me real, present comfort.

19. Psalms 34:18 (KJV)

“The LORD is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart; and saveth such as be of a contrite spirit.”

Prayer: You are close to the brokenhearted. Be close to mine, even over the loss of an animal.

Let this grief be taken as seriously by You as it feels to me.

20. 2 Corinthians 1:3-4 (KJV)

“Blessed be God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies, and the God of all comfort; Who comforteth us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort them which are in any trouble, by the comfort wherewith we ourselves are comforted of God.”

Prayer: You are the God of all comfort. Comfort me over this loss the way only You actually can.

Let comfort reach this exact grief, not just the bigger losses.

21. Psalms 147:3 (KJV)

“He healeth the broken in heart, and bindeth up their wounds.”

Prayer: Heal my broken heart and bind up this wound, however long that healing takes.

Let this grief be allowed to take real time.

22. Matthew 5:4 (KJV)

“Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted.”

Prayer: You called those who mourn blessed, and promised comfort. Let that comfort reach this specific loss.

Let this grief count, not be waved away as less significant.

23. Lamentations 3:22-23 (KJV)

“It is of the LORD’s mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not. They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness.”

Prayer: Your mercies are new every morning, even this hard, quiet one without my pet in it.

Let today’s mercy be enough for today’s absence.

24. Psalms 30:5 (KJV)

“For his anger endureth but a moment; in his favour is life: weeping may endure for a night, but joy cometh in the morning.”

Prayer: Weeping may endure for a night, but let joy come in some future morning.

Let this heaviness not feel permanent forever, even though it does right now.

25. Romans 8:38-39 (KJV)

“For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

Prayer: Nothing separates me from Your love, not even a grief this specific and this real.

Let this certainty hold steady, even for a loss some people might not understand.

26. Philippians 4:6-7 (KJV)

“Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.”

Prayer: Let me bring this grief to You instead of minimizing it, and let peace meet me right in it.

Let peace reach this loss the same way it reaches any other.

27. Psalms 147:4 (KJV)

“He telleth the number of the stars; he calleth them all by their names.”

Prayer: You count the stars and call each one by name. Let me trust You noticed my pet just as specifically.

Let this attention to detail comfort me about a life that mattered.

28. Psalms 46:1 (KJV)

“God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.”

Prayer: You are my refuge and strength, a very present help in this exact kind of grief.

Let help feel present today, not distant.

29. Psalms 121:1-2 (KJV)

“I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help. My help cometh from the LORD, which made heaven and earth.”

Prayer: I lift my eyes to the hills, my help comes from You, even in a grief this specific.

Let my eyes stay lifted instead of just fixed on the empty space this left.

30. Numbers 6:24-26 (KJV)

“The LORD bless thee, and keep thee: The LORD make his face shine upon thee, and be gracious unto thee: The LORD lift up his countenance upon thee, and give thee peace.”

Prayer: Bless me and keep me through this loss, make Your face shine on me, and give me peace.

Let this old blessing cover a grief that feels small to some and huge to me.

Conclusion

Grief doesn’t need permission to be real. If years of companionship ended today, that’s genuine loss, whatever size everyone else thinks it should be.

Let yourself actually grieve this, without rushing past it or minimizing what it meant.

For grief more broadly, a prayer for grief and comfort and a prayer for the brokenhearted are worth reading alongside this one.
