30 Prayer for Sick With Scriptures to Back

A Roman centurion asked Jesus to heal his servant, then stopped Him from even coming to the house. “Just say the word,” he said, certain that was enough. Jesus was amazed at faith like that, and the servant was healed in that exact hour, without Jesus ever laying eyes on him.

These thirty verses are for sickness prayed over with that same confidence, whether you’re praying over yourself or someone too far away to reach in person. For the specific practice of prayer and anointing over illness, a Catholic prayer for the sick goes further into it.

Pray these by name, trusting distance was never a real obstacle.

Prayer for Sick

1. Matthew 8:5-8 (KJV)

“And when Jesus was entered into Capernaum, there came unto him a centurion, beseeching him, And saying, Lord, my servant lieth at home sick of the palsy, grievously tormented. And Jesus saith unto him, I will come and heal him. The centurion answered and said, Lord, I am not worthy that thou shouldest come under my roof: but speak the word only, and my servant shall be healed.”

Prayer: Like the centurion, let me trust that You only need to say the word for this sickness to lift.

Let my faith not need to see You act before I believe You will.

2. Matthew 8:13 (KJV)

“And Jesus said unto the centurion, Go thy way; and as thou hast believed, so be it done unto thee. And his servant was healed in the selfsame hour.”

Prayer: Let it be done just as I believe it, and let healing come in this very hour.

Let this healing be as immediate as it was for that servant.

3. Psalms 103:3 (KJV)

“Who forgiveth all thine iniquities; who healeth all thy diseases;”

Prayer: You heal all my diseases. Let that be true for me right now.

Let this healing be complete, not just partial relief.

4. Isaiah 33:24 (KJV)

“And the inhabitant shall not say, I am sick: the people that dwell therein shall be forgiven their iniquity.”

Prayer: Let there be a day when I can no longer say I am ill.

Let this sickness not be the permanent state I settle into.

5. Jeremiah 30:17 (KJV)

“For I will restore health unto thee, and I will heal thee of thy wounds, saith the LORD; because they called thee an Outcast, saying, This is Zion, whom no man seeketh after.”

Prayer: Restore me to health and heal my wounds.

Let restoration reach every part of what’s affected.

6. Psalms 6:2 (KJV)

“Have mercy upon me, O LORD; for I am weak: O LORD, heal me; for my bones are vexed.”

Prayer: Be merciful to me, for I am faint, heal me.

Let mercy reach me exactly where I’m running out of strength.

7. Psalms 30:2 (KJV)

“O LORD my God, I cried unto thee, and thou hast healed me.”

Prayer: I called to You for help, and You healed me.

Let calling out and healing happen close together this time.

8. Psalms 41:3 (KJV)

“The LORD will strengthen him upon the bed of languishing: thou wilt make all his bed in his sickness.”

Prayer: Sustain me on my sickbed, and restore me from this illness.

Let sustaining cover me through every hard day of this.

9. James 5:15 (KJV)

“And the prayer of faith shall save the sick, and the Lord shall raise him up; and if he have committed sins, they shall be forgiven him.”

Prayer: Let the prayer offered in faith make me well, and let You raise me up.

Let faith-filled prayer be part of how this healing comes.

10. Mark 1:40-42 (KJV)

“And there came a leper to him, beseeching him, and kneeling down to him, and saying unto him, If thou wilt, thou canst make me clean. And Jesus, moved with compassion, put forth his hand, and touched him, and saith unto him, I will; be thou clean. And as soon as he had spoken, immediately the leprosy departed from him, and he was cleansed.”

Prayer: Like the leper who asked, if You are willing, You can make me clean. I trust You are willing.

Let this healing come as immediately as it did for him.

11. Mark 2:11-12 (KJV)

“I say unto thee, Arise, and take up thy bed, and go thy way into thine house. And immediately he arose, took up the bed, and went forth before them all; insomuch that they were all amazed, and glorified God, saying, We never saw it on this fashion.”

Prayer: Let me get up, take up whatever I’ve been carrying, and walk again.

Let restoration be as visible as it was for that paralyzed man.

12. Luke 5:12-13 (KJV)

“And it came to pass, when he was in a certain city, behold a man full of leprosy: who seeing Jesus fell on his face, and besought him, saying, Lord, if thou wilt, thou canst make me clean. And he put forth his hand, and touched him, saying, I will: be thou clean. And immediately the leprosy departed from him.”

Prayer: If You are willing, let me be clean, the way that leper was made clean immediately.

Let Your willingness meet my need without delay.

13. Luke 7:21-22 (KJV)

“And in that same hour he cured many of their infirmities and plagues, and of evil spirits; and unto many that were blind he gave sight. Then Jesus answering said unto them, Go your way, and tell John what things ye have seen and heard; how that the blind see, the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, the deaf hear, the dead are raised, to the poor the gospel is preached.”

Prayer: You cured many people of diseases and sicknesses. Let me be counted among them.

Let this healing be as thorough as it was for that crowd.

14. John 4:46-53 (KJV)

“So Jesus came again into Cana of Galilee, where he made the water wine. And there was a certain nobleman, whose son was sick at Capernaum. When he heard that Jesus was come out of Judaea into Galilee, he went unto him, and besought him that he would come down, and heal his son: for he was at the point of death. Then said Jesus unto him, Except ye see signs and wonders, ye will not believe. The nobleman saith unto him, Sir, come down ere my child die. Jesus saith unto him, Go thy way; thy son liveth. And the man believed the word that Jesus had spoken unto him, and he went his way. And as he was now going down, his servants met him, and told him, saying, Thy son liveth. Then enquired he of them the hour when he began to amend. And they said unto him, Yesterday at the seventh hour the fever left him. So the father knew that it was at the same hour, in the which Jesus said unto him, Thy son liveth: and himself believed, and his whole house.”

Prayer: Like the official’s son healed from a distance, let this healing not depend on physical nearness.

Let distance be no obstacle to this healing reaching me.

15. John 5:5-9 (KJV)

“And a certain man was there, which had an infirmity thirty and eight years. When Jesus saw him lie, and knew that he had been now a long time in that case, he saith unto him, Wilt thou be made whole? The impotent man answered him, Sir, I have no man, when the water is troubled, to put me into the pool: but while I am coming, another steppeth down before me. Jesus saith unto him, Rise, take up thy bed, and walk. And immediately the man was made whole, and took up his bed, and walked: and on the same day was the sabbath.”

Prayer: Even after years of this, let me get up, take up my mat, and walk.

Let however long this has lasted not disqualify me from healing.

16. John 9:1-7 (KJV)

“And as Jesus passed by, he saw a man which was blind from his birth. And his disciples asked him, saying, Master, who did sin, this man, or his parents, that he was born blind? Jesus answered, Neither hath this man sinned, nor his parents: but that the works of God should be made manifest in him. I must work the works of him that sent me, while it is day: the night cometh, when no man can work. As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world. When he had thus spoken, he spat on the ground, and made clay of the spittle, and he anointed the eyes of the blind man with the clay, And said unto him, Go, wash in the pool of Siloam, (which is by interpretation, Sent.) He went his way therefore, and washed, and came seeing.”

Prayer: Let Your works be displayed in me, the way they were in the man born blind.

Let this be an occasion for Your glory, not just my relief.

17. Acts 3:6-8 (KJV)

“Then Peter said, Silver and gold have I none; but such as I have give I thee: In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth rise up and walk. And he took him by the right hand, and lifted him up: and immediately his feet and ankle bones received strength. And he leaping up stood, and walked, and entered with them into the temple, walking, and leaping, and praising God.”

Prayer: In the name of Jesus Christ, let me rise up and walk.

Let this same authority still carry weight for me today.

18. Acts 14:8-10 (KJV)

“And there sat a certain man at Lystra, impotent in his feet, being a cripple from his mother’s womb, who never had walked: The same heard Paul speak: who stedfastly beholding him, and perceiving that he had faith to be healed, Said with a loud voice, Stand upright on thy feet. And he leaped and walked.”

Prayer: Like the lame man in Lystra, let faith to be healed rise in me too.

Let this same power still be active in ordinary people today.

19. Psalms 107:19-20 (KJV)

“Then they cry unto the LORD in their trouble, and he saveth them out of their distresses. He sent his word, and healed them, and delivered them from their destructions.”

Prayer: In my trouble I cried to You, and You sent out Your word and healed me.

Let Your word be as effective now as it always has been.

20. Isaiah 57:18-19 (KJV)

“I have seen his ways, and will heal him: I will lead him also, and restore comforts unto him and to his mourners. I create the fruit of the lips; Peace, peace to him that is far off, and to him that is near, saith the LORD; and I will heal him.”

Prayer: Guide me and restore comfort to me, creating praise on my lips.

Let comfort restore me even before full healing arrives.

21. Malachi 4:2 (KJV)

“But unto you that fear my name shall the Sun of righteousness arise with healing in his wings; and ye shall go forth, and grow up as calves of the stall.”

Prayer: Let the sun of righteousness rise with healing in its wings.

Let healing come as naturally as sunrise.

22. Exodus 15:26 (KJV)

“And said, If thou wilt diligently hearken to the voice of the LORD thy God, and wilt do that which is right in his sight, and wilt give ear to his commandments, and keep all his statutes, I will put none of these diseases upon thee, which I have brought upon the Egyptians: for I am the LORD that healeth thee.”

Prayer: You are the Lord who heals me. Let that be true today.

Let this be something I actually experience, not just recite.

23. Psalms 34:19 (KJV)

“Many are the afflictions of the righteous: but the LORD delivereth him out of them all.”

Prayer: Many are the afflictions I face, but You deliver me from them all.

Let deliverance be complete, not just partial relief.

24. Psalms 91:9-10 (KJV)

“Because thou hast made the LORD, which is my refuge, even the most High, thy habitation; There shall no evil befall thee, neither shall any plague come nigh thy dwelling.”

Prayer: Because I’ve made You my refuge, let no harm come near me, no plague near my home.

Let this protection cover my body through recovery.

25. 2 Kings 5:14 (KJV)

“Then went he down, and dipped himself seven times in Jordan, according to the saying of the man of God: and his flesh came again like unto the flesh of a little child, and he was clean.”

Prayer: Like Naaman, let simple obedience lead to real cleansing.

Let me not overthink what You’ve asked of me, and just obey.

26. 3 John 1:2 (KJV)

“Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth.”

Prayer: I pray that I may prosper and be in good health, just as my soul is getting along well.

Let health and spiritual life grow together, not separately.

27. Isaiah 53:5 (KJV)

“But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.”

Prayer: You were pierced for my transgressions, and by Your wounds I am healed.

Let this ancient promise reach exactly where I need it today.

28. Matthew 4:23-24 (KJV)

“And Jesus went about all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing all manner of sickness and all manner of disease among the people. And his fame went throughout all Syria: and they brought unto him all sick people that were taken with divers diseases and torments, and those which were possessed with devils, and those which were lunatick, and those that had the palsy; and he healed them.”

Prayer: You went about healing every disease and every sickness. Let that same power be at work in me.

Let me remember healing was central to what You did, not incidental.

29. Psalms 118:17 (KJV)

“I shall not die, but live, and declare the works of the LORD.”

Prayer: Let me not die but live, and proclaim what You have done.

Let this season become a testimony, not just an ordeal.

30. Numbers 6:24-26 (KJV)

“The LORD bless thee, and keep thee: The LORD make his face shine upon thee, and be gracious unto thee: The LORD lift up his countenance upon thee, and give thee peace.”

Prayer: Bless me and keep me, make Your face shine on me, and give me peace and health.

Let this old blessing cover every day of this recovery.

Conclusion

Jesus never touched that centurion’s servant. He simply spoke, and it was enough. Whatever distance stands between you and the healing you’re praying for, whether it’s a diagnosis, a hospital room, or just the passage of time, it was never a real obstacle to Him.

Pray for someone sick by name today, even if you can’t physically be with them right now.

For healing more broadly across any illness, a prayer for healing is worth praying alongside this one.
