30 Prayer for Significant Other With Scriptures to Back

Dating someone is a strange middle place, more than friendship, not yet the covenant of marriage, still figuring out what you actually want and whether this is the person to build it with. Scripture does not have a dating section exactly, but it has plenty to say about how two people ought to treat each other while they figure that out.

The thirty verses here are for that in-between season, praying real blessing over a relationship that is still becoming what it will be.

Pray these over the relationship as it currently stands, not the one you are hoping it eventually turns into.

Prayer for Significant Other

1. Proverbs 4:23 (KJV)

“Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life.”

Prayer: Father, help me guard my heart in this relationship, above everything else, for everything I do flows from it.

Let me stay clear-eyed here, not let feelings override discernment.

2. 1 Corinthians 13:4-7 (KJV)

“Charity suffereth long, and is kind; charity envieth not; charity vaunteth not itself, is not puffed up, Doth not behave itself unseemly, seeketh not her own, is not easily provoked, thinketh no evil; Rejoiceth not in iniquity, but rejoiceth in the truth; Beareth all things, believeth all things, hopeth all things, endureth all things.”

Prayer: Lord, let this be patient and kind, not self-seeking, keeping no record of wrongs even this early on.

Let this actual standard shape the relationship now, not just be an ideal for someday.

3. Philippians 4:8 (KJV)

“Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.”

Prayer: Father, whatever is true, noble, and admirable, let that describe how I see this person, honestly, not just through infatuation.

Let me see them clearly, not just the version I want them to be.

4. 2 Corinthians 6:14 (KJV)

“Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness?”

Prayer: Lord, help us be equally yoked, sharing real common ground in what actually matters most.

Let this shared foundation be genuine, not something I am hoping will develop later.

5. Proverbs 3:5-6 (KJV)

“Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.”

Prayer: Father, help me trust You with all my heart in this relationship, not lean on my own understanding of where it should go.

Let trust in You shape my pace here, not just my own eagerness.

6. Ecclesiastes 4:9-10 (KJV)

“Two are better than one; because they have a good reward for their labour. For if they fall, the one will lift up his fellow: but woe to him that is alone when he falleth; for he hath not another to help him up.”

Prayer: Lord, two are better than one, for if either falls, the other helps them up. Let this relationship already show that kind of support.

Let me notice whether we actually help each other up, not just enjoy each other’s company.

7. Romans 12:10 (KJV)

“Be kindly affectioned one to another with brotherly love; in honour preferring one another;”

Prayer: Father, help me honor this person above myself, even now, before any deeper commitment is made.

Let honor be present from the start, not something I add in later.

8. 1 Thessalonians 4:3-4 (KJV)

“For this is the will of God, even your sanctification, that ye should abstain from fornication: That every one of you should know how to possess his vessel in sanctification and honour;”

Prayer: Lord, let us honor each other in this relationship, avoiding what compromises purity between us.

Let respect for each other’s bodies match the respect we claim to have for each other.

9. Proverbs 27:17 (KJV)

“Iron sharpeneth iron; so a man sharpeneth the countenance of his friend.”

Prayer: Father, as iron sharpens iron, let this person sharpen me, and let me sharpen them, not just make each other comfortable.

Let this relationship make both of us genuinely better, not just happier in the moment.

10. James 1:5 (KJV)

“If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.”

Prayer: Lord, if I lack wisdom about this relationship, let me ask You, who gives generously without finding fault.

Let clarity come, especially wherever I currently feel unsure.

11. Proverbs 31:30 (KJV)

“Favour is deceitful, and beauty is vain: but a woman that feareth the LORD, she shall be praised.”

Prayer: Father, charm is deceptive and beauty is fleeting, but let real character be what draws me to this person.

Let attraction not outrun genuine knowledge of who they actually are.

12. Galatians 5:22-23 (KJV)

“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.”

Prayer: Lord, let this relationship bear the fruit of Your Spirit, love, joy, peace, patience, kindness.

Let this fruit be evident even now, not just hoped for eventually.

13. Proverbs 12:15 (KJV)

“The way of a fool is right in his own eyes: but he that hearkeneth unto counsel is wise.”

Prayer: Father, the way of fools seems right to them, but the wise listen to advice. Let me stay open to counsel about this relationship.

Let me not dismiss honest concern from people who know me well.

14. Psalms 37:4 (KJV)

“Delight thyself also in the LORD: and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart.”

Prayer: Lord, let me delight in You first, and let You shape the desires of my heart regarding this relationship.

Let my delight in You come before my desire for this relationship to work out.

15. Ephesians 4:32 (KJV)

“And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ’s sake hath forgiven you.”

Prayer: Father, help us be kind and compassionate to each other, forgiving as You forgave us, even in the small disagreements now.

Let forgiveness become a habit between us early, not something we learn under pressure later.

16. Proverbs 15:22 (KJV)

“Without counsel purposes are disappointed: but in the multitude of counsellors they are established.”

Prayer: Lord, plans fail for lack of counsel, but with many advisers they succeed. Let this relationship benefit from real, honest counsel.

Let wise people speak into this relationship, not just the two of us alone.

17. Colossians 3:13 (KJV)

“Forbearing one another, and forgiving one another, if any man have a quarrel against any: even as Christ forgave you, so also do ye.”

Prayer: Father, help me bear with this person and forgive whatever comes up between us, the way You have forgiven me.

Let grace be practiced here early, not just talked about.

18. 1 Peter 4:8 (KJV)

“And above all things have fervent charity among yourselves: for charity shall cover the multitude of sins.”

Prayer: Lord, above all, let love be genuine here, covering the small offenses instead of magnifying them.

Let love actually cover things, not just paper over them temporarily.

19. Psalms 139:23-24 (KJV)

“Search me, O God, and know my heart: try me, and know my thoughts: And see if there be any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.”

Prayer: Father, search my heart in this relationship, and lead me in the way everlasting.

Let honest self-examination be part of how I evaluate this relationship, not just how the other person is doing.

20. Proverbs 16:9 (KJV)

“A man’s heart deviseth his way: but the LORD directeth his steps.”

Prayer: Lord, I may plan my course, but You establish my steps. Let Your establishing hand be over this relationship’s direction.

Let me hold my own expectations loosely enough for You to redirect them.

21. Romans 8:28 (KJV)

“And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.”

Prayer: Father, I trust You work all things together for good, whether this relationship continues or eventually ends.

Let me trust the outcome, whatever it turns out to be, more than I trust my current hopes about it.

22. Proverbs 25:28 (KJV)

“He that hath no rule over his own spirit is like a city that is broken down, and without walls.”

Prayer: Lord, a person without self-control is like a city with broken walls. Let self-control mark this relationship, especially physically.

Let boundaries be respected, not treated as optional once feelings intensify.

23. Psalms 20:4 (KJV)

“Grant thee according to thine own heart, and fulfil all thy counsel.”

Prayer: Father, grant the heart’s desire in this relationship if it aligns with what You already want for both of us.

Let this desire be tested against Your will, not assumed to already match it.

24. Ephesians 4:2 (KJV)

“With all lowliness and meekness, with longsuffering, forbearing one another in love;”

Prayer: Lord, help me be humble and gentle, patient, bearing with this person through whatever this season requires.

Let patience mark how this relationship develops, not rushing what needs real time.

25. Proverbs 19:20 (KJV)

“Hear counsel, and receive instruction, that thou mayest be wise in thy latter end.”

Prayer: Father, help me listen to advice and accept discipline about this relationship, that in the end I may be wise.

Let genuine listening, not defensiveness, mark how I receive feedback about this.

26. 1 Corinthians 10:31 (KJV)

“Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God.”

Prayer: Lord, whatever I do in this relationship, let me do it for Your glory.

Let this relationship point toward You, not become the center of everything instead.

27. Psalms 25:4-5 (KJV)

“Shew me thy ways, O LORD; teach me thy paths. Lead me in thy truth, and teach me: for thou art the God of my salvation; on thee do I wait all the day.”

Prayer: Father, show me Your ways, teach me Your paths, guide me in Your truth about this relationship.

Let teaching, not just an eventual answer, come out of this season.

28. Proverbs 13:20 (KJV)

“He that walketh with wise men shall be wise: but a companion of fools shall be destroyed.”

Prayer: Lord, whoever walks with the wise grows wise. Let this relationship keep both of us growing wiser, not pull either of us off course.

Let this relationship be genuinely good for both of us, not just enjoyable.

29. Jeremiah 29:11 (KJV)

“For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.”

Prayer: Father, You know the plans You have for me, plans to prosper me and give me hope, whatever becomes of this relationship.

Let my sense of future hope not rest entirely on this one relationship working out.

30. Proverbs 21:2 (KJV)

“Every way of a man is right in his own eyes: but the LORD pondereth the hearts.”

Prayer: Lord, a person may think their own ways are right, but You weigh the heart. Weigh mine honestly in this relationship too.

Let me be honest with myself about my own motives here, not just theirs.

Conclusion

Not every relationship in this season is meant to become a marriage, and that is not automatically a failure. Some of it is simply how two people learn what they actually need, what they can offer, and what real compatibility looks like beyond the early excitement.

Let this season be handled honestly before God, whichever direction it eventually goes.

For where this relationship might be heading, a prayer for wedding and a prayer for making the right decision both pair naturally with this one.
