30 Prayer for Strength and Peace With Scriptures to Back

Paul wrote about a peace that “transcends all understanding” from inside a prison cell, which is his own way of admitting it doesn’t make logical sense given the circumstances. He wasn’t describing calm that shows up because things are finally going well.

These thirty verses are for the kind of tired that isn’t fixed by sleep, needing enough strength to keep going and enough peace to not lose your mind while you go.

Pray these at the start of the day, and let the rest catch you when the afternoon slump hits.

Prayer for Strength and Peace

1. Philippians 4:13 (KJV)

“I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.”

Prayer: I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me, including staying calm while I do them.

Let strength and steadiness show up together today.

2. Philippians 4:6-7 (KJV)

“Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.”

Prayer: Let peace that surpasses understanding guard my heart and mind, even while the circumstances stay exactly the same.

Let peace not require the situation to change first.

3. Isaiah 26:3 (KJV)

“Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee.”

Prayer: Keep me in perfect peace because my mind is fixed on You, not on everything currently going wrong.

Let my focus be the thing that actually shifts, not the circumstances.

4. Isaiah 40:29-31 (KJV)

“He giveth power to the faint; and to them that have no might he increaseth strength. Even the youths shall faint and be weary, and the young men shall utterly fall: But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.”

Prayer: You give strength to the weary and increase the power of the weak. I’m both right now, so meet me there.

Let renewed strength come exactly when the old kind runs out.

5. John 14:27 (KJV)

“Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.”

Prayer: Give me the peace You give, not what the world offers. Let my heart not be troubled or afraid.

Let this peace hold even when the world’s version clearly wouldn’t.

6. Psalms 29:11 (KJV)

“The LORD will give strength unto his people; the LORD will bless his people with peace.”

Prayer: Give strength to Your people, Lord, bless us with peace, both, right now.

Let this blessing land exactly where I’m running on empty.

7. 2 Thessalonians 3:16 (KJV)

“Now the Lord of peace himself give you peace always by all means. The Lord be with you all.”

Prayer: Lord of peace, give me peace at all times and in every way, not just on the calm days.

Let peace be constant, not conditional on a good day.

8. Colossians 3:15 (KJV)

“And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to the which also ye are called in one body; and be ye thankful.”

Prayer: Let the peace of Christ rule in my heart today, not anxiety, not exhaustion.

Let peace actually have the final say over my mood today.

9. Psalms 46:1 (KJV)

“God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.”

Prayer: You are my refuge and strength, a very present help in this exact kind of trouble.

Let help feel present, not distant, today.

10. Nehemiah 8:10 (KJV)

“Then he said unto them, Go your way, eat the fat, and drink the sweet, and send portions unto them for whom nothing is prepared: for this day is holy unto our LORD: neither be ye sorry; for the joy of the LORD is your strength.”

Prayer: Let the joy of the Lord be my strength today, something sturdier than my own willpower.

Let joy fuel this instead of gritted teeth.

11. Psalms 94:19 (KJV)

“In the multitude of my thoughts within me thy comforts delight my soul.”

Prayer: When anxiety was great within me, Your consolation brought me joy. Let that happen again today.

Let consolation reach the exact anxiety I’m carrying right now.

12. 2 Corinthians 12:9 (KJV)

“And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.”

Prayer: Your grace is sufficient, Your power made perfect in my weakness. Let both strength and peace come from that same grace.

Let weakness be the place Your power actually shows up clearest today.

13. Psalms 55:22 (KJV)

“Cast thy burden upon the LORD, and he shall sustain thee: he shall never suffer the righteous to be moved.”

Prayer: I’m casting this burden on You, trusting You to sustain me, not let me be shaken.

Let casting it be real relief, not just words.

14. Romans 15:13 (KJV)

“Now the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that ye may abound in hope, through the power of the Holy Ghost.”

Prayer: Fill me with joy and peace as I trust You, so I overflow with hope by the power of Your Spirit.

Let hope be the overflow, not the exception, today.

15. Psalms 62:1-2 (KJV)

“Truly my soul waiteth upon God: from him cometh my salvation. He only is my rock and my salvation; he is my defence; I shall not be greatly moved.”

Prayer: My soul finds rest in You alone, my rock and salvation, my fortress, I will not be shaken.

Let rest be found in You before it’s found anywhere else.

16. Habakkuk 3:19 (KJV)

“The LORD God is my strength, and he will make my feet like hinds’ feet, and he will make me to walk upon mine high places. To the chief singer on my stringed instruments.”

Prayer: The Lord God is my strength, He makes my feet like the deer’s, able to stand on the high, hard places.

Let sure footing come even on today’s unstable ground.

17. Psalms 34:4 (KJV)

“I sought the LORD, and he heard me, and delivered me from all my fears.”

Prayer: I sought You and You answered me, delivered me from all my fears.

Let deliverance from fear happen quickly today, not slowly.

18. Ephesians 3:16 (KJV)

“That he would grant you, according to the riches of his glory, to be strengthened with might by his Spirit in the inner man;”

Prayer: Strengthen me with power through Your Spirit in my inner being, where the exhaustion actually lives.

Let strength reach past the surface, into the tired place underneath.

19. Numbers 6:26 (KJV)

“The LORD lift up his countenance upon thee, and give thee peace.”

Prayer: Turn Your face toward me and give me peace, the kind only You can actually give.

Let peace today be a gift, not something I have to manufacture myself.

20. Psalms 27:1 (KJV)

“The LORD is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? the LORD is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?”

Prayer: You are my light and salvation, whom shall I fear, You are the stronghold of my life, of whom shall I be afraid.

Let fear lose its grip the moment I remember who You are.

21. 1 Peter 5:7 (KJV)

“Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.”

Prayer: I’m casting all my anxiety on You, because You care about what I’m carrying today.

Let casting it be a real release, not just a phrase I repeat.

22. Psalms 121:1-2 (KJV)

“I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help. My help cometh from the LORD, which made heaven and earth.”

Prayer: I lift my eyes to the hills, where does my help come from? My help comes from You.

Let my eyes stay lifted instead of fixed on what’s exhausting me.

23. Isaiah 41:10 (KJV)

“Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.”

Prayer: Don’t let me be dismayed, You are my God, You will strengthen and help me, uphold me with Your righteous hand.

Let upholding come before I completely run out.

24. Psalms 16:11 (KJV)

“Thou wilt shew me the path of life: in thy presence is fulness of joy; at thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore.”

Prayer: You fill me with joy in Your presence. Let that joy show up even in the middle of today’s exhaustion.

Let joy and tiredness coexist, instead of exhaustion winning entirely.

25. 2 Timothy 1:7 (KJV)

“For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.”

Prayer: You gave me a spirit not of fear, but of power, love, and a sound mind.

Let a sound mind hold steady through today’s demands.

26. Psalms 73:26 (KJV)

“My flesh and my heart faileth: but God is the strength of my heart, and my portion for ever.”

Prayer: My flesh and my heart may fail, but You are the strength of my heart forever.

Let Your strength stand in exactly where mine gives out.

27. Matthew 11:28-29 (KJV)

“Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.”

Prayer: I’m weary and burdened, Lord. Give me the rest You promised, and let me learn from You instead of striving alone.

Let rest come even without a full pause in the schedule.

28. Psalms 138:3 (KJV)

“In the day when I cried thou answeredst me, and strengthenedst me with strength in my soul.”

Prayer: When I called, You answered, You made me bold and stouthearted. Do that again today.

Let boldness replace the timidity exhaustion usually brings.

29. Romans 8:26 (KJV)

“Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.”

Prayer: Your Spirit helps me in my weakness, interceding for me when I don’t even know what to pray.

Let the Spirit carry what I don’t have words for today.

30. Psalms 4:8 (KJV)

“I will both lay me down in peace, and sleep: for thou, LORD, only makest me dwell in safety.”

Prayer: Let me lie down and sleep in peace tonight, worn out from today, not wound up by it.

Let tonight’s rest actually undo today’s tension.

Conclusion

Nobody hands out medals for surviving on fumes. There’s no extra credit in exhaustion. Ask for both, the strength to keep going and the peace to not white-knuckle it the whole way there.

Let both settle in before you even reach for your phone this morning.

For the version of this that’s just about the exhaustion itself, a prayer for strength and guidance goes deeper into that side, and a breath prayer for anxiety is a good next stop if peace is what’s missing most.
