30 Prayer for Wedding Day With Scriptures to Back

Jesus’ first recorded miracle happened at a wedding, an ordinary village celebration that ran out of wine before it was supposed to end. He didn’t just fix the shortage. He made wine so good the host assumed the best had been saved for last.

These thirty verses are for a wedding day, the ceremony itself and the marriage it begins, trusting the best is still ahead rather than already behind.

Pray these in the days leading up to the wedding, not just on the day itself.

Prayer for Wedding Day

1. John 2:1-2 (KJV)

“And the third day there was a marriage in Cana of Galilee; and the mother of Jesus was there: And both Jesus was called, and his disciples, to the marriage.”

Prayer: You were invited to that wedding, and I invite You into this one too.

Let Your presence be central to this day, not just a formality.

2. John 2:9-10 (KJV)

“When the ruler of the feast had tasted the water that was made wine, and knew not whence it was: (but the servants which drew the water knew;) the governor of the feast called the bridegroom, And saith unto him, Every man at the beginning doth set forth good wine; and when men have well drunk, then that which is worse: but thou hast kept the good wine until now.”

Prayer: Let this marriage be like that wedding, the best still ahead, not behind.

Let every year of this marriage be better than the one before it.

3. Genesis 2:24 (KJV)

“Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh.”

Prayer: Let this couple leave what came before and be united, becoming one flesh.

Let this union be complete, not divided loyalties.

4. Ecclesiastes 4:9-12 (KJV)

“Two are better than one; because they have a good reward for their labour. For if they fall, the one will lift up his fellow: but woe to him that is alone when he falleth; for he hath not another to help him up. Again, if two lie together, then they have heat: but how can one be warm alone? And if one prevail against him, two shall withstand him; and a threefold cord is not quickly broken.”

Prayer: Two are better than one, and a cord of three strands isn’t easily broken. Be their third strand.

Let this marriage be built on You from this very first day.

5. 1 Corinthians 13:4-7 (KJV)

“Charity suffereth long, and is kind; charity envieth not; charity vaunteth not itself, is not puffed up, Doth not behave itself unseemly, seeketh not her own, is not easily provoked, thinketh no evil; Rejoiceth not in iniquity, but rejoiceth in the truth; Beareth all things, believeth all things, hopeth all things, endureth all things.”

Prayer: Let their love be patient and kind, keeping no record of wrongs, always persevering.

Let this be the standard their love actually lives up to.

6. Song of Solomon 8:6-7 (KJV)

“Set me as a seal upon thine heart, as a seal upon thine arm: for love is strong as death; jealousy is cruel as the grave: the coals thereof are coals of fire, which hath a most vehement flame. Many waters cannot quench love, neither can the floods drown it: if a man would give all the substance of his house for love, it would utterly be contemned.”

Prayer: Let love be set like a seal on their hearts, strong as death, unquenchable by many waters.

Let nothing be strong enough to wash this love away.

7. Colossians 3:14 (KJV)

“And above all these things put on charity, which is the bond of perfectness.”

Prayer: Above everything, let love bind them together in perfect unity.

Let unity be the foundation under everything else in this marriage.

8. Ephesians 5:25 (KJV)

“Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it;”

Prayer: Let him love her the way Christ loved the church, sacrificially and completely.

Let this love be modeled after that, not anything less.

9. Ephesians 5:33 (KJV)

“Nevertheless let every one of you in particular so love his wife even as himself; and the wife see that she reverence her husband.”

Prayer: Let him love her as himself, and let her respect him.

Let both love and respect flow naturally between them.

10. Mark 10:9 (KJV)

“What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder.”

Prayer: What You join together today, let no one separate.

Let this union stay strong against anything that tries to divide it.

11. Ruth 1:16-17 (KJV)

“And Ruth said, Intreat me not to leave thee, or to return from following after thee: for whither thou goest, I will go; and where thou lodgest, I will lodge: thy people shall be my people, and thy God my God: Where thou diest, will I die, and there will I be buried: the LORD do so to me, and more also, if ought but death part thee and me.”

Prayer: Let their commitment be like Ruth’s, where you go I will go, unwavering.

Let loyalty like this define their marriage from today forward.

12. Proverbs 18:22 (KJV)

Prayer: Whoever finds a spouse finds a good thing and receives favor from You.

Let this favor be evident over their whole marriage.

13. Proverbs 31:10 (KJV)

Prayer: A person of noble character is worth far more than rubies.

Let character, not just this celebration, define their marriage.

14. Psalms 128:1-4 (KJV)

“Blessed is every one that feareth the LORD; that walketh in his ways. For thou shalt eat the labour of thine hands: happy shalt thou be, and it shall be well with thee. Thy wife shall be as a fruitful vine by the sides of thine house: thy children like olive plants round about thy table. Behold, that thus shall the man be blessed that feareth the LORD.”

Prayer: Blessed are those who fear You, let them enjoy the fruit of their life together.

Let blessing be visible in the years this marriage builds.

15. Jeremiah 29:11 (KJV)

“For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.”

Prayer: You know the plans You have for them, plans to prosper them and give them hope.

Let this marriage be part of that good plan for both of them.

16. Psalms 37:4 (KJV)

Prayer: Let them delight themselves in You, and let You give them the desires of their hearts.

Let their desires stay shaped by delighting in You together.

17. Philippians 4:6-7 (KJV)

“Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.”

Prayer: Let them bring every concern to You together, and let peace guard both their hearts.

Let peace be what they return to, even in future disagreements.

18. Numbers 6:24-26 (KJV)

“The LORD bless thee, and keep thee: The LORD make his face shine upon thee, and be gracious unto thee: The LORD lift up his countenance upon thee, and give thee peace.”

Let this old blessing cover this whole marriage, not just today.

19. 1 Peter 3:7 (KJV)

“Likewise, ye husbands, dwell with them according to knowledge, giving honour unto the wife, as unto the weaker vessel, and as being heirs together of the grace of life; that your prayers be not hindered.”

Let humility keep this marriage soft, not hardened by pride.

21. Romans 12:10 (KJV)

Let honor be their default toward each other, not an afterthought.

22. Hebrews 13:4 (KJV)

Prayer: Let marriage be honored by all, and let their union stay pure.

Let this marriage be one others can genuinely look up to.

23. Psalms 118:24 (KJV)

24. Psalms 20:4 (KJV)

26. Psalms 45:11 (KJV)

Let unity be pleasant for them, not just something they have to work at.

30. Psalms 100:4-5 (KJV)

Prayer: Let them enter this new life with thanksgiving, for You are good, Your love endures forever.

Let thanksgiving mark not just today, but every anniversary ahead.

Conclusion

The best wine at that wedding in Cana came last, after the host had already assumed the good stuff was behind them. That’s not a bad way to think about a marriage either, not a peak that already happened on the wedding day, but something meant to keep getting better.

Pray a few of these together as a couple in the days before the wedding, not only individually.

For the search that led here, a prayer for a mate, and for the marriage this day begins, a prayer for marriage are both worth returning to.
