30 Night Prayer for Protection With Scriptures to Back

“You will not fear the terror of night,” the psalmist promised, naming a specific kind of vulnerability, the hours when you’re asleep, unaware, unable to watch over yourself. Night has always carried its own particular need for protection.

These thirty verses are for exactly that, covering your home and the hours you can’t stay alert through. If racing thoughts are what actually keeps you up, a prayer for sleep and anxiety addresses that more directly.

Pray these before turning off the light, not after you’re already lying awake worried.

Night Prayer for Protection

1. Psalms 91:5-6 (KJV)

“Thou shalt not be afraid for the terror by night; nor for the arrow that flieth by day; Nor for the pestilence that walketh in darkness; nor for the destruction that wasteth at noonday.”

Prayer: Let me not fear the terror of night, or the plague that stalks in darkness.

Let this promise hold specifically through the hours I can’t watch over myself.

2. Psalms 4:8 (KJV)

“I will both lay me down in peace, and sleep: for thou, LORD, only makest me dwell in safety.”

Prayer: Let me lie down and sleep in peace, for You alone make me dwell in safety.

Let safety be real tonight, not just hoped for.

3. Psalms 3:5 (KJV)

“I laid me down and slept; I awaked; for the LORD sustained me.”

Prayer: Let me lie down and sleep, and wake again, because You sustain me.

Let sustaining cover me through the whole night, unseen.

4. Psalms 121:3-4 (KJV)

“He will not suffer thy foot to be moved: he that keepeth thee will not slumber. Behold, he that keepeth Israel shall neither slumber nor sleep.”

Prayer: You who watch over me will not slumber or sleep.

Let Your watching cover every hour I’m unaware of tonight.

5. Proverbs 3:24 (KJV)

“When thou liest down, thou shalt not be afraid: yea, thou shalt lie down, and thy sleep shall be sweet.”

Prayer: When I lie down, let me not be afraid, let my sleep be sweet.

Let this home feel genuinely safe as everyone settles in tonight.

6. Psalms 127:2 (KJV)

“It is vain for you to rise up early, to sit up late, to eat the bread of sorrows: for so he giveth his beloved sleep.”

Prayer: You grant sleep to those You love. Grant it to me and my household tonight.

Let sleep be a gift received, not a battle fought.

7. Psalms 34:7 (KJV)

“The angel of the LORD encampeth round about them that fear him, and delivereth them.”

Prayer: Your angel encamps around those who fear You, and delivers them. Encamp around this home tonight.

Let that circle of protection hold from dusk until morning.

8. Psalms 91:1-2 (KJV)

“He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the LORD, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust.”

Prayer: Let me dwell in Your shelter tonight, my refuge and fortress, the God I trust.

Let this shelter feel real as I close my eyes.

9. Psalms 91:9-11 (KJV)

“Because thou hast made the LORD, which is my refuge, even the most High, thy habitation; There shall no evil befall thee, neither shall any plague come nigh thy dwelling. For he shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways.”

Prayer: Because I’ve made You my refuge, let no harm come near, command Your angels to guard this home.

Let this guarding cover every room tonight.

10. Numbers 6:24-26 (KJV)

“The LORD bless thee, and keep thee: The LORD make his face shine upon thee, and be gracious unto thee: The LORD lift up his countenance upon thee, and give thee peace.”

Prayer: Bless this home and keep it tonight, make Your face shine on it, and give it peace.

Let this old blessing settle over every person sleeping here.

11. Psalms 5:11-12 (KJV)

“But let all those that put their trust in thee rejoice: let them ever shout for joy, because thou defendest them: let them also that love thy name be joyful in thee. For thou, LORD, wilt bless the righteous; with favour wilt thou compass him as with a shield.”

Prayer: Spread Your protection over this home, surround us with Your favor as with a shield.

Let this shield be up before anyone even senses danger.

12. Isaiah 54:17 (KJV)

“No weapon that is formed against thee shall prosper; and every tongue that shall rise against thee in judgment thou shalt condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the LORD, and their righteousness is of me, saith the LORD.”

Prayer: No weapon forged against this household will prevail tonight.

Let this promise cover threats we can see and the ones we can’t.

13. Psalms 121:7-8 (KJV)

“The LORD shall preserve thee from all evil: he shall preserve thy soul. The LORD shall preserve thy going out and thy coming in from this time forth, and even for evermore.”

Prayer: Keep us from all harm, watch over our coming and going, now and forevermore.

Let watching cover tonight and every night after this one.

14. Deuteronomy 33:12 (KJV)

“And of Benjamin he said, The beloved of the LORD shall dwell in safety by him; and the Lord shall cover him all the day long, and he shall dwell between his shoulders.”

Prayer: Let us rest secure, shielded all night, resting between Your shoulders.

Let security tonight be real, not just a hope.

15. Psalms 46:1 (KJV)

“God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.”

Prayer: You are our refuge and strength, a very present help tonight.

Let help feel present, not distant, through the darkest hours.

16. Psalms 63:6 (KJV)

“When I remember thee upon my bed, and meditate on thee in the night watches.”

Prayer: Let me remember You on my bed, and think of You through the night watches.

Let my last thoughts tonight be peaceful ones.

17. Psalms 16:7 (KJV)

“I will bless the LORD, who hath given me counsel: my reins also instruct me in the night seasons.”

Prayer: Let my heart instruct me even at night, in Your counsel.

Let nighttime become a season of Your counsel, not just vulnerability.

18. Psalms 143:8 (KJV)

“Cause me to hear thy lovingkindness in the morning; for in thee do I trust: cause me to know the way wherein I should walk; for I lift up my soul unto thee.”

Prayer: Let me hear of Your unfailing love come morning, having trusted You through the night.

Let tomorrow start with love, evidence this night was truly covered.

19. Exodus 12:13 (KJV)

“And the blood shall be to you for a token upon the houses where ye are: and when I see the blood, I will pass over you, and the plague shall not be upon you to destroy you, when I smite the land of Egypt.”

Prayer: Let this home be marked as Yours, and let no destroyer pass through it tonight.

Let this home be unmistakably covered, the way Israel’s homes were.

20. Psalms 17:8 (KJV)

“Keep me as the apple of the eye, hide me under the shadow of thy wings,”

Prayer: Keep me as the apple of Your eye, hide me in the shadow of Your wings tonight.

Let this hiding place be real, not just a nice image.

21. Psalms 32:7 (KJV)

“Thou art my hiding place; thou shalt preserve me from trouble; thou shalt compass me about with songs of deliverance. Selah.”

Prayer: You are my hiding place, You will protect me and surround me tonight.

Let this protection cover the whole night, start to finish.

22. Psalms 91:3 (KJV)

“Surely he shall deliver thee from the snare of the fowler, and from the noisome pestilence.”

Prayer: Save me from the fowler’s snare tonight, from anything hidden that might harm.

Let hidden dangers stay far from this home tonight.

23. Job 5:19-21 (KJV)

“He shall deliver thee in six troubles: yea, in seven there shall no evil touch thee. In famine he shall redeem thee from death: and in war from the power of the sword. Thou shalt be hid from the scourge of the tongue: neither shalt thou be afraid of destruction when it cometh.”

Prayer: Deliver me from every trouble, so no harm will touch me tonight.

Let this protection be as thorough as this promise describes.

24. Psalms 121:1-2 (KJV)

“I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help. My help cometh from the LORD, which made heaven and earth.”

Prayer: My help comes from You, Maker of heaven and earth, even in the dark.

Let my confidence rest there, not in how alert I can stay.

25. Psalms 139:11-12 (KJV)

“If I say, Surely the darkness shall cover me; even the night shall be light about me. Yea, the darkness hideth not from thee; but the night shineth as the day: the darkness and the light are both alike to thee.”

Prayer: Even the darkness is not dark to You, the night shines like the day.

Let me trust You see clearly what I can’t see at all tonight.

26. 2 Kings 6:16-17 (KJV)

“And he answered, Fear not: for they that be with us are more than they that be with them. And Elisha prayed, and said, LORD, I pray thee, open his eyes, that he may see. And the LORD opened the eyes of the young man; and he saw: and, behold, the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire round about Elisha.”

Prayer: Those with us are more than those against us. Open my eyes, if only briefly, to that truth tonight.

Let me trust the unseen protection even without seeing it, the way Elisha’s servant eventually did.

27. Colossians 3:15 (KJV)

“And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to the which also ye are called in one body; and be ye thankful.”

Prayer: Let the peace of Christ rule in this home tonight.

Let peace be the last feeling before sleep, not worry.

28. Isaiah 26:3 (KJV)

“Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee.”

Prayer: Keep me in perfect peace, my mind stayed on You through the night.

Let my mind return to You each time it wanders toward fear.

29. 1 Peter 5:7 (KJV)

“Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.”

Prayer: I’m casting this whole anxiety onto You before I close my eyes tonight.

Let casting it be a real release, not just words.

30. Romans 8:38-39 (KJV)

“For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

Prayer: Nothing can separate me from Your love, not even the vulnerability of night.

Let this certainty hold steady even while I sleep.

Conclusion

The psalmist wasn’t naive about what the dark can hold. He named it directly, the terror of night, and then handed it over rather than staying up trying to guard it alone. That’s still the better plan than white-knuckling through until sunrise.

Pray this over your whole home before bed, not just your own room.

For a fuller stand against real threats, a strong prayer for protection is worth praying alongside this one.
