30 Prayer for Covering With Scriptures to Back

“He will cover you with His feathers, and under His wings you will find refuge,” the psalmist wrote, choosing an image of a bird sheltering something small and vulnerable underneath itself, close enough to feel the warmth, not just theoretically nearby.

These thirty verses are for that same covering, prayed over your life, your home, and the people you love. For a more general stand against real threats, a strong prayer for protection goes further into that.

Pray these when you feel exposed, asking specifically to be covered, not just watched from a distance.

Prayer for Covering

1. Psalms 91:1 (KJV)

“He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.”

Prayer: Let me dwell in Your shelter, resting in the shadow of the Almighty.

Let this covering feel close, not distant or theoretical.

2. Psalms 91:4 (KJV)

“He shall cover thee with his feathers, and under his wings shalt thou trust: his truth shall be thy shield and buckler.”

Prayer: Cover me with Your feathers, and let me find refuge under Your wings.

Let this covering be as near as this verse describes.

3. Ruth 2:12 (KJV)

“The LORD recompense thy work, and a full reward be given thee of the LORD God of Israel, under whose wings thou art come to trust.”

Prayer: May You richly reward me, under whose wings I have come to take refuge.

Let this reward be as generous as it was for Ruth.

4. Ruth 3:9 (KJV)

“And he said, Who art thou? And she answered, I am Ruth thine handmaid: spread therefore thy skirt over thine handmaid; for thou art a near kinsman.”

Prayer: Spread Your covering over me, the way a kinsman-redeemer covers what belongs to them.

Let this covering come with the same commitment Boaz showed Ruth.

5. Exodus 40:34 (KJV)

“Then a cloud covered the tent of the congregation, and the glory of the LORD filled the tabernacle.”

Prayer: Let Your cloud cover my life, and let Your glory fill it.

Let Your presence be as unmistakable over me as it was over that tent.

6. Exodus 13:21 (KJV)

“And the LORD went before them by day in a pillar of a cloud, to lead them the way; and by night in a pillar of fire, to give them light; to go by day and night:”

Prayer: Go before me like a pillar of cloud by day and fire by night.

Let Your covering lead me, not just shield me passively.

7. Psalms 105:39 (KJV)

“He spread a cloud for a covering; and fire to give light in the night.”

Prayer: Spread a cloud as a covering, and fire to give light through the night.

Let this covering hold through every hour, day and night alike.

8. Isaiah 4:5-6 (KJV)

“And the LORD will create upon every dwelling place of mount Zion, and upon her assemblies, a cloud and smoke by day, and the shining of a flaming fire by night: for upon all the glory shall be a defence. And there shall be a tabernacle for a shadow in the day time from the heat, and for a place of refuge, and for a covert from storm and from rain.”

Prayer: Create over me a canopy, a shelter and shade from the heat, a refuge from the storm.

Let this covering shield me from what would otherwise wear me down.

9. Psalms 121:5 (KJV)

“The LORD is thy keeper: the LORD is thy shade upon thy right hand.”

Prayer: You watch over me, You are my shade at my right hand.

Let this shade be close enough to actually feel.

10. Psalms 17:8 (KJV)

“Keep me as the apple of the eye, hide me under the shadow of thy wings,”

Prayer: Keep me as the apple of Your eye, hide me in the shadow of Your wings.

Let this hiding place be real, not just a nice image.

11. Psalms 36:7 (KJV)

“How excellent is thy lovingkindness, O God! therefore the children of men put their trust under the shadow of thy wings.”

Prayer: How priceless is Your unfailing love, let me take refuge in the shadow of Your wings.

Let this refuge feel as valuable as this verse describes.

12. Psalms 57:1 (KJV)

“Be merciful unto me, O God, be merciful unto me: for my soul trusteth in thee: yea, in the shadow of thy wings will I make my refuge, until these calamities be overpast.”

Prayer: In the shadow of Your wings, let me take refuge until this trouble passes.

Let this covering last exactly as long as I need it to.

13. Psalms 61:4 (KJV)

“I will abide in thy tabernacle for ever: I will trust in the covert of thy wings. Selah.”

Prayer: Let me dwell in Your tent forever, and take refuge in the shelter of Your wings.

Let this covering feel permanent, not just temporary.

14. Psalms 63:7 (KJV)

“Because thou hast been my help, therefore in the shadow of thy wings will I rejoice.”

Prayer: Because You are my help, let me sing in the shadow of Your wings.

Let singing come naturally out of real, felt covering.

15. Deuteronomy 33:12 (KJV)

“And of Benjamin he said, The beloved of the LORD shall dwell in safety by him; and the Lord shall cover him all the day long, and he shall dwell between his shoulders.”

Prayer: Let me rest secure, shielded all day, resting between Your shoulders.

Let security be real, not just something I hope for.

16. Matthew 23:37 (KJV)

“O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, thou that killest the prophets, and stonest them which are sent unto thee, how often would I have gathered thy children together, even as a hen gathereth her chickens under her wings, and ye would not!”

Prayer: Gather me the way a hen gathers her chicks under her wings.

Let me actually come under this covering, not stay outside it.

17. Psalms 5:11-12 (KJV)

“But let all those that put their trust in thee rejoice: let them ever shout for joy, because thou defendest them: let them also that love thy name be joyful in thee. For thou, LORD, wilt bless the righteous; with favour wilt thou compass him as with a shield.”

Prayer: Spread Your protection over me, surround me with Your favor as with a shield.

Let this shield be up before I even sense danger.

18. Ephesians 6:16 (KJV)

“Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked.”

Prayer: Let me take up the shield of faith to extinguish every flaming arrow.

Let faith be a real covering, not just a nice idea.

19. Isaiah 54:17 (KJV)

“No weapon that is formed against thee shall prosper; and every tongue that shall rise against thee in judgment thou shalt condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the LORD, and their righteousness is of me, saith the LORD.”

Prayer: No weapon forged against me will prevail while I’m under this covering.

Let this promise cover threats I can see and the ones I can’t.

20. Colossians 3:3 (KJV)

“For ye are dead, and your life is hid with Christ in God.”

Prayer: My life is hidden with Christ in You.

Let this hiddenness be real security, not just a spiritual concept.

21. Psalms 32:7 (KJV)

“Thou art my hiding place; thou shalt preserve me from trouble; thou shalt compass me about with songs of deliverance. Selah.”

Prayer: You are my hiding place, You will protect me and surround me with songs of deliverance.

Let this protection cover me completely.

22. Psalms 27:5 (KJV)

“For in the time of trouble he shall hide me in his pavilion: in the secret of his tabernacle shall he hide me; he shall set me up upon a rock.”

Prayer: In the day of trouble, You will keep me safe, hide me in the shelter of Your sacred tent.

Let this shelter be somewhere I actually run to.

23. Proverbs 18:10 (KJV)

“The name of the LORD is a strong tower: the righteous runneth into it, and is safe.”

Prayer: Your name is a fortified tower, let me run into it and be safe.

Let running to You be my first move, not my last resort.

24. Psalms 91:9-11 (KJV)

“Because thou hast made the LORD, which is my refuge, even the most High, thy habitation; There shall no evil befall thee, neither shall any plague come nigh thy dwelling. For he shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways.”

Prayer: Because I’ve made You my refuge, let no harm come near me, command Your angels to guard me.

Let this guarding cover the ordinary parts of my day too.

25. Nahum 1:7 (KJV)

“The LORD is good, a strong hold in the day of trouble; and he knoweth them that trust in him.”

Prayer: You are good, a refuge in times of trouble, You care for those who trust in You.

Let being cared for feel real, not distant.

26. Isaiah 32:2 (KJV)

“And a man shall be as an hiding place from the wind, and a covert from the tempest; as rivers of water in a dry place, as the shadow of a great rock in a weary land.”

Prayer: Let me be like one who is a shelter from the wind, a refuge from the storm.

Let this same covering that shelters me also flow through me to others.

27. Psalms 121:7-8 (KJV)

“The LORD shall preserve thee from all evil: he shall preserve thy soul. The LORD shall preserve thy going out and thy coming in from this time forth, and even for evermore.”

Prayer: Keep me from all harm, watch over my coming and going, now and forevermore.

Let this covering last, not just for today.

28. 2 Thessalonians 3:3 (KJV)

“But the Lord is faithful, who shall stablish you, and keep you from evil.”

Prayer: You are faithful, and You will strengthen and protect me under this covering.

Let both strengthening and protecting hold true today.

29. Psalms 46:1 (KJV)

“God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.”

Prayer: You are my refuge and strength, a very present help under this covering.

Let help feel present, not distant.

30. Numbers 6:24-26 (KJV)

“The LORD bless thee, and keep thee: The LORD make his face shine upon thee, and be gracious unto thee: The LORD lift up his countenance upon thee, and give thee peace.”

Prayer: Bless me and keep me, make Your face shine on me, and give me peace under Your covering.

Let this old blessing be part of what covers me today.

Conclusion

The image of feathers and wings isn’t accidental. It describes something close, not a distant policy of protection but a covering you can feel the warmth of, the way a bird actually shelters what’s underneath it, not just nearby.

Ask specifically to come under that covering today, not just to be watched from a distance.

For the vulnerable hours of night specifically, a night prayer for protection is worth praying alongside this one.
