“Give us this day our daily bread,” Jesus taught His disciples to pray, right in the middle of the Lord’s Prayer, between hallowing God’s name and asking forgiveness. Something as ordinary as a meal was worth its own line.
These thirty verses are for that same ordinary moment, the food in front of you right now, prayed over with real attention instead of rushed past.
Pray these before eating, and let a meal actually become a small act of worship.
Prayer for Eating
1. Matthew 6:11 (KJV)
“Give us this day our daily bread.”
Prayer: Give me this day my daily bread.
Let me not take this ordinary provision for granted.
2. 1 Corinthians 10:31 (KJV)
“Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God.”
Prayer: Whether I eat or drink, let me do it all for Your glory.
Let even this ordinary meal point back to You.
3. Psalms 145:15-16 (KJV)
“The eyes of all wait upon thee; and thou givest them their meat in due season. Thou openest thine hand, and satisfiest the desire of every living thing.”
Prayer: The eyes of all look to You, and You give them their food, opening Your hand to satisfy.
Let this food actually satisfy, not just fill.
4. Deuteronomy 8:3 (KJV)
“And he humbled thee, and suffered thee to hunger, and fed thee with manna, which thou knewest not, neither did thy fathers know; that he might make thee know that man doth not live by bread only, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of the LORD doth man live.”
Prayer: Let me remember that I don’t live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from You.
Let this meal remind me I need more than just physical food.
5. John 6:35 (KJV)
“And Jesus said unto them, I am the bread of life: he that cometh to me shall never hunger; and he that believeth on me shall never thirst.”
Prayer: You are the bread of life. Let me hunger for You as much as I hunger for this meal.
Let this ordinary meal point me back to a deeper hunger.
6. Exodus 16:4 (KJV)
“Then said the LORD unto Moses, Behold, I will rain bread from heaven for you; and the people shall go out and gather a certain rate every day, that I may prove them, whether they will walk in my law, or no.”
Prayer: You rained bread from heaven for Your people. Thank You for providing for me too.
Let today’s provision be received with the same wonder Israel had.
7. Psalms 34:8 (KJV)
“O taste and see that the LORD is good: blessed is the man that trusteth in him.”
Prayer: Let me taste and see that You are good, even in this simple meal.
Let ordinary food remind me of Your goodness.
8. Proverbs 30:8-9 (KJV)
“Remove far from me vanity and lies: give me neither poverty nor riches; feed me with food convenient for me: Lest I be full, and deny thee, and say, Who is the LORD? or lest I be poor, and steal, and take the name of my God in vain.”
Prayer: Give me only my daily bread, neither poverty nor riches.
Let contentment with enough be real, not just an ideal.
9. 1 Timothy 4:4-5 (KJV)
“For every creature of God is good, and nothing to be refused, if it be received with thanksgiving: For it is sanctified by the word of God and prayer.”
Prayer: Everything You created is good, and nothing is to be rejected if received with thanksgiving.
Let thanksgiving be what consecrates this meal.
10. Psalms 104:14-15 (KJV)
“He causeth the grass to grow for the cattle, and herb for the service of man: that he may bring forth food out of the earth; And wine that maketh glad the heart of man, and oil to make his face to shine, and bread which strengtheneth man’s heart.”
Prayer: You bring forth food from the earth, bread that strengthens the human heart.
Let this food genuinely strengthen me for what’s ahead today.
11. Acts 27:35 (KJV)
“And when he had thus spoken, he took bread, and gave thanks to God in presence of them all: and when he had broken it, he began to eat.”
Prayer: Like Paul on that ship, let me give thanks before eating, in front of others if that’s where I am.
Let thanksgiving be visible, not something I only think privately.
12. Luke 24:30 (KJV)
“And it came to pass, as he sat at meat with them, he took bread, and blessed it, and brake, and gave to them.”
Prayer: Like on the road to Emmaus, let You be known to me in the breaking of bread.
Let ordinary meals become moments I recognize You in.
13. John 6:11 (KJV)
“And Jesus took the loaves; and when he had given thanks, he distributed to the disciples, and the disciples to them that were set down; and likewise of the fishes as much as they would.”
Prayer: You took the loaves, gave thanks, and there was more than enough. Multiply what I have too.
Let this provision go further than it looks like it can.
14. Mark 8:6 (KJV)
“And he commanded the people to sit down on the ground: and he took the seven loaves, and gave thanks, and brake, and gave to his disciples to set before them; and they did set them before the people.”
Prayer: You took what little there was, gave thanks, and broke it to share.
Let this meal be an occasion for sharing, not just consuming.
15. 1 Samuel 9:13 (KJV)
“As soon as ye be come into the city, ye shall straightway find him, before he go up to the high place to eat: for the people will not eat until he come, because he doth bless the sacrifice; and afterwards they eat that be bidden. Now therefore get you up; for about this time ye shall find him.”
Prayer: Let this meal be blessed before it’s eaten, not an afterthought.
Let blessing come first, before the eating itself.
16. Deuteronomy 8:10 (KJV)
“When thou hast eaten and art full, then thou shalt bless the LORD thy God for the good land which he hath given thee.”
Prayer: When I eat and am satisfied, let me praise You for this good provision.
Let satisfaction lead me to praise, not just to the next task.
17. Psalms 136:25 (KJV)
“Who giveth food to all flesh: for his mercy endureth for ever.”
Prayer: You give food to every creature, Your love endures forever.
Let this ordinary provision remind me of Your enduring love.
18. Proverbs 15:17 (KJV)
“Better is a dinner of herbs where love is, than a stalled ox and hatred therewith.”
Prayer: Let this meal, however simple, be shared with love, not tension.
Let the atmosphere around this table matter as much as the food.
19. Ecclesiastes 9:7 (KJV)
“Go thy way, eat thy bread with joy, and drink thy wine with a merry heart; for God now accepteth thy works.”
Prayer: Let me eat this food with joy, and drink with a glad heart.
Let joy be present at this table, not just habit.
20. Romans 14:6 (KJV)
“He that regardeth the day, regardeth it unto the Lord; and he that regardeth not the day, to the Lord he doth not regard it. He that eateth, eateth to the Lord, for he giveth God thanks; and he that eateth not, to the Lord he eateth not, and giveth God thanks.”
Prayer: Whoever eats, eats to You, giving thanks. Let that be true of me right now.
Let gratitude accompany this meal, not just appetite.
21. Colossians 3:17 (KJV)
“And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him.”
Prayer: Whatever I do, in word or deed, including this meal, let me do it in Your name, giving thanks.
Let even this ordinary act carry Your name well.
22. Philippians 4:19 (KJV)
“But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.”
Prayer: You will supply all my needs, according to Your riches in glory.
Let this meal be evidence of that promise, not something I take for granted.
23. Psalms 111:5 (KJV)
“He hath given meat unto them that fear him: he will ever be mindful of his covenant.”
Prayer: You provide food for those who fear You, remembering Your covenant.
Let this provision remind me of Your faithfulness, not just fill my stomach.
24. Nehemiah 9:15 (KJV)
“And gavest them bread from heaven for their hunger, and broughtest forth water for them out of the rock for their thirst, and promisedst them that they should go in to possess the land which thou hadst sworn to give them.”
Prayer: You gave bread from heaven for their hunger. Thank You for meeting my hunger too.
Let this provision be received with the same gratitude Israel owed You.
25. Psalms 78:24-25 (KJV)
“And had rained down manna upon them to eat, and had given them of the corn of heaven. Man did eat angels’ food: he sent them meat to the full.”
Prayer: You rained down manna, giving bread from heaven, more than enough.
Let today’s meal be received with the same wonder as that first manna.
26. James 1:17 (KJV)
“Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning.”
Prayer: Every good and perfect gift comes down from You, including this meal.
Let me recognize this ordinary gift as actually coming from You.
27. Proverbs 3:9-10 (KJV)
“Honour the LORD with thy substance, and with the firstfruits of all thine increase: So shall thy barns be filled with plenty, and thy presses shall burst out with new wine.”
Prayer: Let me honor You with what I have, trusting You to fill my barns.
Let generosity flow from this table, not just consumption.
28. Ruth 2:14 (KJV)
“And Boaz said unto her, At mealtime come thou hither, and eat of the bread, and dip thy morsel in the vinegar. And she sat beside the reapers: and he reached her parched corn, and she did eat, and was sufficed, and left.”
Prayer: Like Boaz welcomed Ruth to share bread, let this table be a place of welcome too.
Let this meal be an act of hospitality, not just habit.
29. Psalms 23:5 (KJV)
“Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.”
Prayer: You prepare a table before me. Let me receive this meal as coming from Your table.
Let this ordinary table feel like Yours, not just mine.
30. Numbers 6:24-26 (KJV)
“The LORD bless thee, and keep thee: The LORD make his face shine upon thee, and be gracious unto thee: The LORD lift up his countenance upon thee, and give thee peace.”
Prayer: Bless me and keep me, make Your face shine on me, and give me peace over this meal.
Let this old blessing settle over this table.
Conclusion
That one line in the Lord’s Prayer isn’t filler. It’s a reminder that ordinary provision, a meal you didn’t have to hunt or grow yourself, still comes from somewhere, and it’s worth noticing before you eat it.
Try pausing to actually pray one of these before your next meal, instead of a rushed, automatic grace.
For a mealtime prayer more broadly, a prayer for meals, and for gratitude over daily provision, a thank you for our daily bread prayer are both worth praying too.
