30 Prayer for Physical Pain With Scriptures to Back

Paul asked three separate times for his pain to be taken away, calling it a thorn in his flesh. It never was removed. The answer he got instead was different: “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Not every pain gets removed. Grace still arrives either way.

These thirty verses are for physical pain prayed over honestly, whether it lifts completely or you’re asked to carry it a while longer. For pain you’re praying over on behalf of someone else, a prayer for pain relief for a friend is built for that.

Pray these as often as the pain requires, even multiple times in a single day.

Prayer for Physical Pain

1. 2 Corinthians 12:7-9 (KJV)

“And lest I should be exalted above measure through the abundance of the revelations, there was given to me a thorn in the flesh, the messenger of Satan to buffet me, lest I should be exalted above measure. For this thing I besought the Lord thrice, that it might depart from me. And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.”

Prayer: Let this pain be taken away, but if not, let Your grace be sufficient for me.

Let grace meet me either way, relief or the strength to endure it.

2. 2 Corinthians 12:10 (KJV)

“Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in necessities, in persecutions, in distresses for Christ’s sake: for when I am weak, then am I strong.”

Prayer: Let me find strength in weakness, trusting Your power is made perfect there.

Let this pain not disqualify me from being genuinely strong in You.

3. Psalms 38:1-8 (KJV)

“O LORD, rebuke me not in thy wrath: neither chasten me in thy hot displeasure. For thine arrows stick fast in me, and thy hand presseth me sore. There is no soundness in my flesh because of thine anger; neither is there any rest in my bones because of my sin. For mine iniquities are gone over mine head: as an heavy burden they are too heavy for me. My wounds stink and are corrupt because of my foolishness. I am troubled; I am bowed down greatly; I go mourning all the day long. For my loins are filled with a loathsome disease: and there is no soundness in my flesh. I am feeble and sore broken: I have roared by reason of the disquietness of my heart.”

Prayer: Let You meet me in this pain, however deep it goes right now.

Let nothing about this suffering be too much for You to reach.

4. Psalms 6:2-3 (KJV)

“Have mercy upon me, O LORD; for I am weak: O LORD, heal me; for my bones are vexed. My soul is also sore vexed: but thou, O LORD, how long?”

Prayer: Be merciful to me, for I am faint, heal me, my whole being is deeply troubled.

Let mercy reach me exactly where this pain is worst.

5. Job 30:17 (KJV)

“My bones are pierced in me in the night season: and my sinews take no rest.”

Prayer: At night my bones ache, gnawing pain doesn’t let me rest. Let You give me actual rest.

Let sleep come, even with this pain still present.

6. Job 33:19-20 (KJV)

“He is chastened also with pain upon his bed, and the multitude of his bones with strong pain: So that his life abhorreth bread, and his soul dainty meat.”

Prayer: Let this continual struggle be met with real relief, not just endurance.

Let this pain not steal my appetite for life along with everything else.

7. Psalms 22:14-15 (KJV)

“I am poured out like water, and all my bones are out of joint: my heart is like wax; it is melted in the midst of my bowels. My strength is dried up like a potsherd; and my tongue cleaveth to my jaws; and thou hast brought me into the dust of death.”

Prayer: My strength is dried up, let Your strength stand in exactly where mine gives out.

Let this be a place You genuinely meet me, not just describe.

8. Psalms 31:9-10 (KJV)

“Have mercy upon me, O LORD, for I am in trouble: mine eye is consumed with grief, yea, my soul and my belly. For my life is spent with grief, and my years with sighing: my strength faileth because of mine iniquity, and my bones are consumed.”

Prayer: Be gracious to me in my distress, my strength is failing because of my affliction.

Let strength be renewed right where it’s currently running out.

9. Psalms 42:11 (KJV)

“Why art thou cast down, O my soul? and why art thou disquieted within me? hope thou in God: for I shall yet praise him, who is the health of my countenance, and my God.”

Prayer: Why am I downcast? Let me put my hope in You, even in this pain.

Let this honest question lead me somewhere true, not just numb.

10. Isaiah 53:3-5 (KJV)

“He is despised and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief: and we hid as it were our faces from him; he was despised, and we esteemed him not. Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted. But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.”

Prayer: You are familiar with suffering, and by Your wounds I am healed.

Let this pain be met by someone who genuinely understands it.

11. Matthew 8:16-17 (KJV)

“When the even was come, they brought unto him many that were possessed with devils: and he cast out the spirits with his word, and healed all that were sick: That it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Esaias the prophet, saying, Himself took our infirmities, and bare our sicknesses.”

Prayer: You took up my infirmities and carried my sorrows.

Let this pain not be carried by me alone.

12. 1 Peter 2:24 (KJV)

“Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed.”

Prayer: By Your wounds I have been healed. Let that finished healing be real in my body too.

Let this old promise still cover this exact pain today.

13. Psalms 34:19 (KJV)

“Many are the afflictions of the righteous: but the LORD delivereth him out of them all.”

Prayer: Many are the afflictions I face, but You deliver me from them all.

Let deliverance be complete, not just partial relief.

14. Psalms 30:2 (KJV)

“O LORD my God, I cried unto thee, and thou hast healed me.”

Prayer: I called to You for help, and You healed me.

Let calling out and healing happen close together this time.

15. Psalms 41:3 (KJV)

Prayer: Sustain me on this sickbed, and restore me.

Let sustaining cover me through every hard day of this pain.

Prayer: You heal the brokenhearted and bind up their wounds.

Let this binding up reach the exact place this hurts.

17. Jeremiah 30:17 (KJV)

“For I will restore health unto thee, and I will heal thee of thy wounds, saith the LORD; because they called thee an Outcast, saying, This is Zion, whom no man seeketh after.”

Prayer: Restore me to health and heal my wounds.

Let restoration reach every part of what’s causing this pain.

18. James 5:14-16 (KJV)

“Is any sick among you? let him call for the elders of the church; and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord: And the prayer of faith shall save the sick, and the Lord shall raise him up; and if he have committed sins, they shall be forgiven him. Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.”

Prayer: Let the prayer offered in faith make me well, and let You raise me up.

Let faith-filled prayer be part of how this relief comes.

Prayer: Let me bring this pain to You, and let peace guard my heart and mind.

Let peace reach me even while the pain is still real.

21. Isaiah 41:10 (KJV)

“Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.”

Let help come before I feel completely overwhelmed by this pain.

22. Psalms 71:20-21 (KJV)

“Thou, which hast shewed me great and sore troubles, shalt quicken me again, and shalt bring me up again from the depths of the earth. Thou shalt increase my greatness, and comfort me on every side.”

Let comfort follow this pain the way it always has before.

23. Romans 8:18 (KJV)

“For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us.”

Prayer: Let this present suffering not compare to the glory that will be revealed.

Let this perspective steady me even while the pain is still real.

24. 2 Corinthians 4:16-18 (KJV)

“For which cause we faint not; but though our outward man perish, yet the inward man is renewed day by day. For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, worketh for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory; While we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen: for the things which are seen are temporal; but the things which are not seen are eternal.”

Let this old blessing cover every hard day of this.

Conclusion

Paul didn’t ask once and stop. He asked three separate times, and the answer stayed the same each time, not the removal he wanted, but grace sufficient for exactly what he was carrying. Sometimes the prayer that gets answered isn’t the one you asked, and grace shows up anyway.

Ask honestly, and keep asking, even if the answer isn’t the removal you’re hoping for yet.

For a fuller healing across body, mind, and spirit, a prayer for total healing is worth praying alongside this one.
