“Deliver us from evil,” Jesus taught His disciples to pray, right at the end of the Lord’s Prayer, not as a rare emergency request but as a normal, regular part of praying. He assumed evil was real and worth naming directly, every time.
These thirty verses are for that same direct request, protection from evil specifically, not just general hardship or bad luck.
Pray these with real awareness, naming what you’re actually asking to be protected from.
Prayer for Protection from Evil
1. Matthew 6:13 (KJV)
“And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.”
Prayer: Lead me not into temptation, but deliver me from evil.
Let this be as regular a request for me as Jesus made it for His disciples.
2. Psalms 121:7 (KJV)
“The LORD shall preserve thee from all evil: he shall preserve thy soul.”
Prayer: You will keep me from all evil, You will watch over my life.
Let watching cover what I can’t see coming.
3. 2 Thessalonians 3:3 (KJV)
“But the Lord is faithful, who shall stablish you, and keep you from evil.”
Prayer: You are faithful, and You will strengthen and protect me from the evil one.
Let both promises hold true for me right now.
4. John 17:15 (KJV)
“I pray not that thou shouldest take them out of the world, but that thou shouldest keep them from the evil.”
Prayer: I’m not asking to be taken out of this world, only to be protected from the evil one.
Let this protection hold while I’m still here, in the middle of things.
5. Ephesians 6:11 (KJV)
“Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.”
Prayer: Let me put on Your full armor so I can stand against the devil’s schemes.
Let me recognize schemes for what they are, not be caught off guard.
6. 1 Peter 5:8-9 (KJV)
“Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour: Whom resist stedfast in the faith, knowing that the same afflictions are accomplished in your brethren that are in the world.”
Prayer: Let me be alert and of sober mind, resisting the enemy, standing firm in faith.
Let alertness come naturally, not out of fear.
7. James 4:7 (KJV)
“Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.”
Prayer: Let me submit to You, resist the devil, and watch him flee.
Let submission to You be my first move, not my last resort.
8. Psalms 91:3 (KJV)
“Surely he shall deliver thee from the snare of the fowler, and from the noisome pestilence.”
Prayer: Save me from the fowler’s snare and from the deadly pestilence.
Let hidden traps be exposed before I walk into them.
9. Proverbs 4:14-15 (KJV)
“Enter not into the path of the wicked, and go not in the way of evil men. Avoid it, pass not by it, turn from it, and pass away.”
Prayer: Let me not set foot on the path of the wicked, avoid it and pass on by.
Let discernment keep me off paths that only look harmless at first.
10. Isaiah 54:17 (KJV)
“No weapon that is formed against thee shall prosper; and every tongue that shall rise against thee in judgment thou shalt condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the LORD, and their righteousness is of me, saith the LORD.”
Prayer: No weapon forged against me will prevail. Let that be settled truth, not wishful thinking.
Let this promise cover threats I can see and the ones I can’t.
11. 1 John 5:18 (KJV)
“We know that whosoever is born of God sinneth not; but he that is begotten of God keepeth himself, and that wicked one toucheth him not.”
Prayer: The one born of You is kept safe, and the evil one cannot touch them.
Let this safety be real, not just theoretical.
12. 2 Corinthians 10:4 (KJV)
“(For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;)”
Prayer: My weapons have divine power to demolish strongholds.
Let this power actually tear down what evil has tried to build.
13. Ephesians 6:12 (KJV)
“For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.”
Prayer: This struggle isn’t against flesh and blood, but against powers of darkness. Let me fight it as such.
Let me stop treating a spiritual fight like it’s only a human one.
14. Colossians 1:13 (KJV)
“Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son:”
Prayer: You rescued me from the dominion of darkness and brought me into Your kingdom.
Let this rescue stay final, not something evil gets to contest.
15. Psalms 140:1 (KJV)
“Deliver me, O LORD, from the evil man: preserve me from the violent man;”
Prayer: Rescue me from evil, protect me from violent people.
Let rescue come before harm has the chance to reach me.
16. Psalms 17:8-9 (KJV)
“Keep me as the apple of the eye, hide me under the shadow of thy wings, From the wicked that oppress me, from my deadly enemies, who compass me about.”
Prayer: Keep me as the apple of Your eye, hide me in the shadow of Your wings from the wicked.
Let this hiding place be real, not just a nice image.
17. Psalms 5:11-12 (KJV)
“But let all those that put their trust in thee rejoice: let them ever shout for joy, because thou defendest them: let them also that love thy name be joyful in thee. For thou, LORD, wilt bless the righteous; with favour wilt thou compass him as with a shield.”
Prayer: Spread Your protection over me, surround me with Your favor as with a shield.
Let this shield be up before I even sense danger.
18. Romans 12:21 (KJV)
“Be not overcome of evil, but overcome evil with good.”
Prayer: Let me not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.
Let good actually win in this, not just survive.
19. Nahum 1:7 (KJV)
“The LORD is good, a strong hold in the day of trouble; and he knoweth them that trust in him.”
Prayer: You are good, a refuge in times of trouble, You care for those who trust in You.
Let being cared for feel real, not distant, right now.
20. Proverbs 3:25-26 (KJV)
“Be not afraid of sudden fear, neither of the desolation of the wicked, when it cometh. For the LORD shall be thy confidence, and shall keep thy foot from being taken.”
Prayer: Let me not fear sudden disaster, for You will be my confidence.
Let confidence in You replace any dread I’m carrying.
21. Psalms 27:1-3 (KJV)
“The LORD is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? the LORD is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid? When the wicked, even mine enemies and my foes, came upon me to eat up my flesh, they stumbled and fell. Though an host should encamp against me, my heart shall not fear: though war should rise against me, in this will I be confident.”
Prayer: Though an army encamp against me, my heart will not fear.
Let confidence hold even when the threat looks real.
22. Zechariah 2:5 (KJV)
“For I, saith the LORD, will be unto her a wall of fire round about, and will be the glory in the midst of her.”
Prayer: Be a wall of fire around me, and the glory in my midst.
Let this protection be strong enough that nothing gets through.
23. Deuteronomy 31:6 (KJV)
“Be strong and of a good courage, fear not, nor be afraid of them: for the LORD thy God, he it is that doth go with thee; he will not fail thee, nor forsake thee.”
Prayer: Let me be strong and courageous, not afraid, for You go with me against this.
Let courage show up before the fear fully clears.
24. Isaiah 41:10 (KJV)
“Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.”
Prayer: Don’t let me be dismayed, You are my God, You will strengthen and help me.
Let help come before I feel completely overwhelmed.
25. Psalms 91:9-11 (KJV)
“Because thou hast made the LORD, which is my refuge, even the most High, thy habitation; There shall no evil befall thee, neither shall any plague come nigh thy dwelling. For he shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways.”
Prayer: Because I’ve made You my refuge, let no harm come near me, command Your angels to guard me.
Let this guarding be as real as this psalm describes.
26. Luke 10:19 (KJV)
“Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you.”
Prayer: You have given me authority to overcome the enemy, and nothing will harm me.
Let this authority be real, not just theoretical.
27. 1 John 4:4 (KJV)
“Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world.”
Prayer: The One who is in me is greater than the one who is in the world.
Let this truth settle any sense of being outmatched by evil.
28. Psalms 34:7 (KJV)
“The angel of the LORD encampeth round about them that fear him, and delivereth them.”
Prayer: Your angel encamps around those who fear You, and delivers them.
Let that circle of protection hold strong around me.
29. Psalms 18:2 (KJV)
“The LORD is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer; my God, my strength, in whom I will trust; my buckler, and the horn of my salvation, and my high tower.”
Prayer: You are my rock, my fortress, my deliverer, in whom I take refuge.
Let every one of these names cover me against evil.
30. Numbers 6:24-26 (KJV)
“The LORD bless thee, and keep thee: The LORD make his face shine upon thee, and be gracious unto thee: The LORD lift up his countenance upon thee, and give thee peace.”
Prayer: Bless me and keep me, make Your face shine on me, and give me peace against whatever comes.
Let this old blessing be real protection, not just a nice phrase.
Conclusion
Jesus didn’t treat that line as optional or overly dramatic. He built it into the everyday prayer He gave His disciples, right alongside asking for daily bread. Naming evil directly and asking for protection from it is simply part of praying honestly.
Pray this one plainly, without needing to over-explain what you’re asking to be protected from.
For a stronger, more deliberate version of this same request, a strong prayer for protection and a prayer for deliverance from evil both go further into it.
