30 Prayer for Testing With Scriptures to Back

“Consider it pure joy,” James wrote, “whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance.” Not joy because the trial itself feels good, joy because of what the testing is actually producing underneath it.

These thirty verses are for the season that feels like it’s testing everything you claim to believe, refining something you didn’t ask to have refined.

Pray these while you’re still in the furnace, not just once you’ve come out the other side.

Prayer for Testing

1. James 1:2-4 (KJV)

“My brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into divers temptations; Knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience. But let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing.”

Prayer: Let me consider this trial pure joy, trusting the testing of my faith is producing perseverance.

Let me trust the process even while I’m still in the middle of it.

2. 1 Peter 1:6-7 (KJV)

“Wherein ye greatly rejoice, though now for a season, if need be, ye are in heaviness through manifold temptations: That the trial of your faith, being much more precious than of gold that perisheth, though it be tried with fire, might be found unto praise and honour and glory at the appearing of Jesus Christ:”

Prayer: Let this testing prove the genuineness of my faith, more precious than gold refined by fire.

Let what’s genuine in me actually be proven through this, not just assumed.

3. Romans 5:3-5 (KJV)

“And not only so, but we glory in tribulations also: knowing that tribulation worketh patience; And patience, experience; and experience, hope: And hope maketh not ashamed; because the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us.”

Prayer: Let this suffering produce perseverance, perseverance character, and character hope.

Let me trust this chain even while I’m still stuck on the first link.

4. James 1:12 (KJV)

“Blessed is the man that endureth temptation: for when he is tried, he shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord hath promised to them that love him.”

Prayer: Blessed is the one who perseveres under trial, receiving the crown of life You’ve promised.

Let perseverance be possible today, not just a future ideal.

5. 1 Corinthians 10:13 (KJV)

“There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.”

Prayer: No testing has overtaken me except what’s common, and You’ll provide a way through it.

Let me actually find and take that way out.

6. Hebrews 12:11 (KJV)

“Now no chastening for the present seemeth to be joyous, but grievous: nevertheless afterward it yieldeth the peaceable fruit of righteousness unto them which are exercised thereby.”

Prayer: No discipline seems pleasant at the time, but it produces a harvest of righteousness later.

Let me trust the harvest even while the discipline still hurts.

7. Psalms 66:10 (KJV)

“For thou, O God, hast proved us: thou hast tried us, as silver is tried.”

Prayer: You tested me, refined me like silver.

Let this refining leave me purer, not just worn down.

8. Zechariah 13:9 (KJV)

“And I will bring the third part through the fire, and will refine them as silver is refined, and will try them as gold is tried: they shall call on my name, and I will hear them: I will say, It is my people: and they shall say, The LORD is my God.”

Prayer: Refine me like silver, test me like gold, and let me call on Your name through it.

Let this process produce something worth the fire.

9. Job 23:10 (KJV)

“But he knoweth the way that I take: when he hath tried me, I shall come forth as gold.”

Prayer: You know the way that I take, and when You have tested me, let me come forth as gold.

Let this testing be productive, not just painful.

10. Proverbs 17:3 (KJV)

“The fining pot is for silver, and the furnace for gold: but the LORD trieth the hearts.”

Prayer: The crucible for silver, the furnace for gold, but You test the heart.

Let my heart be what actually gets refined here, not just my circumstances.

11. Isaiah 48:10 (KJV)

“Behold, I have refined thee, but not with silver; I have chosen thee in the furnace of affliction.”

Prayer: You have refined me, though not as silver, tested me in the furnace of affliction.

Let this affliction produce something worth having gone through.

12. Malachi 3:2-3 (KJV)

“But who may abide the day of his coming? and who shall stand when he appeareth? for he is like a refiner’s fire, and like fullers’ soap: And he shall sit as a refiner and purifier of silver: and he shall purify the sons of Levi, and purge them as gold and silver, that they may offer unto the LORD an offering in righteousness.”

Prayer: Sit as a refiner and purifier, and let me come out purified, like gold and silver.

Let purification be the actual result, not just endurance.

13. 1 Peter 4:12-13 (KJV)

“Beloved, think it not strange concerning the fiery trial which is to try you, as though some strange thing happened unto you: But rejoice, inasmuch as ye are partakers of Christ’s sufferings; that, when his glory shall be revealed, ye may be glad also with exceeding joy.”

Prayer: Let me not be surprised by this fiery trial, but rejoice that I participate in what You’re doing.

Let this trial not catch me off guard, but be met with real faith.

14. 2 Corinthians 4:8-9 (KJV)

“We are troubled on every side, yet not distressed; we are perplexed, but not in despair; Persecuted, but not forsaken; cast down, but not destroyed;”

Prayer: Let me be hard pressed but not crushed, perplexed but not in despair.

Let me not be crushed, even on the days it feels close.

15. Deuteronomy 8:2 (KJV)

“And thou shalt remember all the way which the LORD thy God led thee these forty years in the wilderness, to humble thee, and to prove thee, to know what was in thine heart, whether thou wouldest keep his commandments, or no.”

Prayer: Let me remember how You’ve led me, testing me to know what’s actually in my heart.

Let this test reveal something true, not just something hard.

16. Genesis 22:1 (KJV)

“And it came to pass after these things, that God did tempt Abraham, and said unto him, Abraham: and he said, Behold, here I am.”

Prayer: Like You tested Abraham, let this testing prove faith that was already real, not create doubt that wasn’t there before.

Let this test reveal faith, not manufacture fear.

17. Psalms 26:2 (KJV)

“Examine me, O LORD, and prove me; try my reins and my heart.”

Prayer: Test me, Lord, and try me, examine my heart and mind.

Let me invite this examination, not just endure it passively.

18. Psalms 139:23-24 (KJV)

“Search me, O God, and know my heart: try me, and know my thoughts: And see if there be any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.”

Prayer: Search me, God, and know my heart, test me and know my anxious thoughts.

Let You see what’s actually true in me through this.

19. 2 Corinthians 13:5 (KJV)

“Examine yourselves, whether ye be in the faith; prove your own selves. Know ye not your own selves, how that Jesus Christ is in you, except ye be reprobates?”

Prayer: Let me examine myself to see whether I am in the faith, testing myself honestly.

Let this self-examination be honest, not defensive.

20. Matthew 4:1 (KJV)

“Then was Jesus led up of the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted of the devil.”

Prayer: You were led into the wilderness to be tested, and You came through it. Let me trust that same pattern for me.

Let this wilderness season end the way Yours did, in victory.

21. Hebrews 4:15 (KJV)

“For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin.”

Prayer: You were tempted in every way, yet without sin. Let me trust You understand exactly what I’m facing.

Let this not be a distant sympathy, but real understanding.

22. Romans 8:28 (KJV)

“And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.”

Prayer: Work even this testing together for good, in ways I can’t currently see.

Let me trust this even before I know how it turns out.

23. Philippians 4:11-13 (KJV)

“Not that I speak in respect of want: for I have learned, in whatsoever state I am, therewith to be content. I know both how to be abased, and I know how to abound: every where and in all things I am instructed both to be full and to be hungry, both to abound and to suffer need. I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.”

Prayer: Let me learn to be content, whether in plenty or in want, through this exact season.

Let contentment be learned here, not just claimed.

24. Psalms 121:1-2 (KJV)

“I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help. My help cometh from the LORD, which made heaven and earth.”

Prayer: I lift my eyes to the hills, my help comes from You.

Let my eyes stay lifted through this whole testing.

25. Isaiah 43:2 (KJV)

“When thou passest through the waters, I will be with thee; and through the rivers, they shall not overflow thee: when thou walkest through the fire, thou shalt not be burned; neither shall the flame kindle upon thee.”

Prayer: When I pass through the waters, You are with me, they will not sweep over me.

Let this testing not overtake me completely.

26. Nehemiah 8:10 (KJV)

“Then he said unto them, Go your way, eat the fat, and drink the sweet, and send portions unto them for whom nothing is prepared: for this day is holy unto our LORD: neither be ye sorry; for the joy of the LORD is your strength.”

Prayer: Let the joy of the Lord be my strength through this, not gritted-teeth endurance.

Let joy fuel me through this testing, not just obligation.

27. Psalms 34:19 (KJV)

“Many are the afflictions of the righteous: but the LORD delivereth him out of them all.”

Prayer: Many are my afflictions, but You deliver me from them all, including this test.

Let deliverance be as thorough as this promise claims.

28. 2 Timothy 2:3 (KJV)

“Thou therefore endure hardness, as a good soldier of Jesus Christ.”

Prayer: Let me endure hardship like a good soldier, not looking for an easy way around it.

Let endurance itself become part of what this test produces in me.

29. Revelation 2:10 (KJV)

“Fear none of those things which thou shalt suffer: behold, the devil shall cast some of you into prison, that ye may be tried; and ye shall have tribulation ten days: be thou faithful unto death, and I will give thee a crown of life.”

Prayer: Let me be faithful, even to the point of difficulty, and receive the crown of life.

Let faithfulness through this test outlast the test itself.

30. James 1:5 (KJV)

“If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.”

Prayer: I lack wisdom in the middle of this testing. Give it to me generously, without finding fault.

Let wisdom come without shame for having to ask.

Conclusion

James never promised the trial itself would feel good. He pointed to what it was quietly producing underneath, perseverance, character, hope, none of which show up without something first being tested.

Stay in the process instead of rushing toward the resolution. The testing itself is doing real work.

For the endurance this season requires, a prayer for strength and hope pairs well with this one.
