30 Prayer for Travel Protection With Scriptures to Back

Jacob left home with nothing but a stone for a pillow, fleeing his brother’s anger toward an uncertain destination. That first night, he made a simple vow: “If God will be with me and will watch over me on this journey.” It became the pattern for every trip that mattered after that.

These thirty verses are for travel protection more broadly, flights, trains, unfamiliar roads, and the whole distance between leaving and arriving. For a car trip specifically, a prayer for traveling by car is built for that.

Pray these before you leave, and again once you’re safely there.

Prayer for Travel Protection

1. Genesis 28:20 (KJV)

“And Jacob vowed a vow, saying, If God will be with me, and will keep me in this way that I go, and will give me bread to eat, and raiment to put on,”

Prayer: If You will be with me and watch over me on this journey, I trust You for it.

Let this vow be as real for me as it was for Jacob.

2. Genesis 28:15 (KJV)

“And, behold, I am with thee, and will keep thee in all places whither thou goest, and will bring thee again into this land; for I will not leave thee, until I have done that which I have spoken to thee of.”

Prayer: You are with me and will watch over me wherever I go.

Let this promise cover exactly where I’m headed today.

3. Acts 27:23-24 (KJV)

“For there stood by me this night the angel of God, whose I am, and whom I serve, Saying, Fear not, Paul; thou must be brought before Caesar: and, lo, God hath given thee all them that sail with thee.”

Prayer: Let me not be afraid, the way that angel told Paul not to fear, even in a real storm.

Let this same reassurance carry me through this trip.

4. Acts 27:44 (KJV)

“And the rest, some on boards, and some on broken pieces of the ship. And so it came to pass, that they escaped all safe to land.”

Prayer: Let everyone traveling with me reach our destination safely, the way that whole ship did.

Let safety cover everyone on this trip, not just me.

5. Psalms 121:8 (KJV)

“The LORD shall preserve thy going out and thy coming in from this time forth, and even for evermore.”

Prayer: Watch over my coming and going, now and forevermore.

Let this watching cover this whole trip, start to finish.

6. Psalms 91:11 (KJV)

“For he shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways.”

Prayer: Command Your angels concerning me, to guard me in all my ways.

Let this guarding cover every leg of this journey.

7. Exodus 23:20 (KJV)

“Behold, I send an Angel before thee, to keep thee in the way, and to bring thee into the place which I have prepared.”

Prayer: Send Your angel ahead of me, to guard me along the way.

Let You go ahead of me, not just walk beside me.

8. Psalms 121:1-2 (KJV)

“I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help. My help cometh from the LORD, which made heaven and earth.”

Prayer: I lift my eyes to the hills, my help comes from You, Maker of heaven and earth.

Let my confidence rest there, not in the reliability of transportation.

9. Psalms 107:23-30 (KJV)

“They that go down to the sea in ships, that do business in great waters; These see the works of the LORD, and his wonders in the deep. For he commandeth, and raiseth the stormy wind, which lifteth up the waves thereof. They mount up to the heaven, they go down again to the depths: their soul is melted because of trouble. They reel to and fro, and stagger like a drunken man, and are at their wit’s end. Then they cry unto the LORD in their trouble, and he bringeth them out of their distresses. He maketh the storm a calm, so that the waves thereof are still. Then are they glad because they be quiet; so he bringeth them unto their desired haven.”

Prayer: If storms come during this journey, let You still them and guide me to safety.

Let You calm whatever turbulence this trip might bring.

10. Isaiah 43:2 (KJV)

“When thou passest through the waters, I will be with thee; and through the rivers, they shall not overflow thee: when thou walkest through the fire, thou shalt not be burned; neither shall the flame kindle upon thee.”

Prayer: When I pass through the waters, You are with me, they will not sweep over me.

Let nothing on this trip overtake me completely.

11. Proverbs 3:23 (KJV)

“Then shalt thou walk in thy way safely, and thy foot shall not stumble.”

Prayer: Let me go on my way safely, and let my feet not stumble.

Let this trip go smoothly, without unexpected setbacks.

12. Psalms 4:8 (KJV)

“I will both lay me down in peace, and sleep: for thou, LORD, only makest me dwell in safety.”

Prayer: Let me lie down and sleep in peace tonight, wherever this journey takes me.

Let rest come easily, even away from my own bed.

13. Deuteronomy 31:6 (KJV)

“Be strong and of a good courage, fear not, nor be afraid of them: for the LORD thy God, he it is that doth go with thee; he will not fail thee, nor forsake thee.”

Prayer: Let me be strong and courageous on this trip, not afraid, for You go with me.

Let courage carry me through any unfamiliar part of this journey.

14. Numbers 6:24-26 (KJV)

“The LORD bless thee, and keep thee: The LORD make his face shine upon thee, and be gracious unto thee: The LORD lift up his countenance upon thee, and give thee peace.”

Prayer: Bless me and keep me on this trip, make Your face shine on me, and give me peace.

Let this old blessing cover every mile of this journey.

15. Psalms 34:7 (KJV)

“The angel of the LORD encampeth round about them that fear him, and delivereth them.”

Prayer: Your angel encamps around those who fear You, and delivers them. Encamp around me on this trip.

Let that circle of protection travel with me everywhere I go.

16. Psalms 91:1-2 (KJV)

“He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the LORD, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust.”

Prayer: Let me dwell in Your shelter, my refuge and fortress, wherever this trip takes me.

Let this shelter travel with me the whole way.

17. Psalms 5:11-12 (KJV)

“But let all those that put their trust in thee rejoice: let them ever shout for joy, because thou defendest them: let them also that love thy name be joyful in thee. For thou, LORD, wilt bless the righteous; with favour wilt thou compass him as with a shield.”

Prayer: Spread Your protection over me, surround me with Your favor as with a shield.

Let this shield be up before I even leave home.

18. Isaiah 41:10 (KJV)

“Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.”

Prayer: Don’t let me be dismayed, You are my God, You will strengthen and help me.

Let help come before any delay or difficulty on this trip.

19. Psalms 121:3-4 (KJV)

“He will not suffer thy foot to be moved: he that keepeth thee will not slumber. Behold, he that keepeth Israel shall neither slumber nor sleep.”

Prayer: You who watch over me will not slumber or sleep, even while I travel.

Let Your watching cover every hour I’m in transit.

20. Genesis 24:40 (KJV)

Prayer: Lead me the way You led Abraham’s servant, straight to where I need to go.

Let Your leading be as clear for me as it was for him.

22. Nehemiah 2:4-8 (KJV)

“Then the king said unto me, For what dost thou make request? So I prayed to the God of heaven. And I said unto the king, If it please the king, and if thy servant have found favour in thy sight, that thou wouldest send me unto Judah, unto the city of my fathers’ sepulchres, that I may build it. And the king said unto me, (the queen also sitting by him,) For how long shall thy journey be? and when wilt thou return? So it pleased the king to send me; and I set him a time. Moreover I said unto the king, If it please the king, let letters be given me to the governors beyond the river, that they may convey me over till I come into Judah; And a letter unto Asaph the keeper of the king’s forest, that he may give me timber to make beams for the gates of the palace which appertained to the house, and for the wall of the city, and for the house that I shall enter into. And the king granted me, according to the good hand of my God upon me.”

Prayer: Let doors open for safe passage the way they did for Nehemiah.

Let unexpected favor smooth the way on this trip.

23. Exodus 33:14 (KJV)

Let this promise cover however far this trip takes me.

Let Your presence be as real away from home as it is here.

28. Psalms 23:4 (KJV)

“Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.”

Prayer: Even through unfamiliar places, let me fear no evil, for You are with me.

Let Your presence be as real on unfamiliar ground as anywhere else.

Prayer: You are good, a refuge in times of trouble, You care for those who trust in You.

Let being cared for feel real wherever this trip takes me.

Conclusion

Jacob’s vow at Bethel wasn’t made from a place of comfort or certainty. It was made fleeing home with almost nothing, unsure what lay ahead. And yet it became the pattern he returned to on that trip and every one after it, asking for God’s presence specifically, not just good luck.

Pray this specifically before you leave, naming the actual trip and destination.

For broader protection over your travels and everything else, a prayer for covering is worth praying alongside this one.
